I just watched your video, Orwell! That's quite an ambitious operation you've got there!

Your cranberries are very much alive, but they're in their dormant mode. That's the colour they turn during the winter, after the first fall frosts, or when they get too dry during the summer, even for just a few days. It's their way of rolling over and going back to sleep if they don't think the world is looking cranberry-friendly.

They're also pining for the earth. Those runners you have hanging over the sides of the pot are longing to touch damp soil and put down new roots. If you could find a large flat container, maybe one square meter or larger, and transplant your plants into the middle so the vines could sprawl out, they'd be much more contented. You could then spread a cm or so of sand over the top of it all, partially burying the runners so they can better make roots, then water daily, and your plants will think they're in cranberry heaven (if and when they next decide to wake up.)

Please keep me posted on their progress. I somehow feel personally responsible for their wellbeing in such a queer foreign land.

It's strange for me in the barbaric hemisphere to think that a kangaroo could hop into your compound and munch on whatever he wanted. The worst that my parents have to deal with is wild turkeys.

Oz is weird. half the animals are the cutest critters ever, and the other half are deadly toxic nightmares, theres no in between.

Been a lot of Survivaling going on. Must do an update sometime. As to how my garden is growing - I don't f***íng know, Azriel -- it must be science.

Today I move my aquaponics. Then I'll put together my second one as well. A Survivalist never sleeps.

Oh, it's just some different stuff we grow at our cabin, and my fathers work mostly.

There's barley, flax, mais, peas, tomatoes and a lot of other stuff.

The plant at the bottom right corner is a pumpkin plant. We got a huge pumkin this year, but of coursse I didn't get a proper picture of it.

Did you eat it, carve it out, or do what the English do and polish it to a shine and enter it in a show?

We boiled the diced pumkin flesh in water and vinager with some ginger. Then put it in glasses to keep, a bit like jam, and you have it as an accompaniement with dinner. Not sure what you would call it in english, but anyway it's delicious.

But you must understand this term in reality means- any food I have not been eating since childhood. Therefore curry, pasta and in fact most food which is in fact foreign to the UK doesn't count as such.
Just anything new and foreign qualifies immediately (and importantly without trying it first) as foreign muck. Its a UK thing.

Its also why UK people find Peters Kay's garlic bread routine so funny-
