Re: Tales of Home [5]
maybe an update is appropriate so i am having quite a nice time here, without going too much into detail. tomorrow i will make trollkrem (lingon berries in a sort of creamy way, very good) for the now live Ylvis show. funny thing is that in this fall-holidays i am gonna be in the audience of an Ylvis show so looking forward to that. i can't think of any more to share, but here are some pictures from my instagram/facebook
taken from the place where we get drunk.
stolen bread and shit.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
Looks great Love that cave picture. Nice picture of you there as well, the view from up there must be beautiful! And that looks like a perfect place to get drunk, reminds me of the places me and my friends used to go "fishing & drinking" in the summer, when we all lived in the same place

Re: Tales of Home [5]
Nice pictures.
A lot of places up north, yeah.
Though you're right, of course. It might as well have snowed in the alps, really, as far as distance is concerned.
Though I did say so myself, and it did snow here.. err.. in this country.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
They did quite an interesting segment about white Christmasses in Britain on QI a little while ago.
Some of the info here:
Some of the info here:
If we take London as our reference point and define a white Christmas as one where there is snow lying on the ground (as opposed to the usual bookies' definition of a flake of snow falling on Christmas Day, whether or not it lies) then there were only four during the 20th century: 1927, 1938, 1970, and 1981 (a year which the bookies wouldn’t have counted because it didn't actually snow on 25th Dec - but there was snow on the ground).
There happened to be snow every Christmas of the first eight years of Charles Dickens' life, which probably explains why white Christmases are a consistent feature of his stories. His snowy childhood has its origins in the colder climate of the period 1550-1850 when Britain was in the grip of a 'Little Ice Age'. Winters were particularly persistent and severe - 1813-14 was the last winter that a 'frost fair' was held on the frozen River Thames in London. Before the change of calendar in 1752, which effectively brought Christmas day back by 12 days, snow was even more likely as Christmas comes at the beginning of the season for snow. Wintry weather is more likely in January.
Our last white Christmas was in 2010 when there was snow on the ground at 83% of stations - the highest amount ever recorded - but snow or sleet also fell at 19% of stations.
Climate change has brought higher average temperatures over land and sea (which reduces the chances of a white Christmas) but the natural variability of the weather will not stop cold, snowy winters happening in the future.

Thanks for the update, Norc. Glad to hear things are going well for you at school! Enjoy your troll cream and the Ylvis show, and be careful with that cliff when you're drinking.

Nice pics, Mrs Figg. Is the first one with all the grass and trees in the same area as the others? They look much more urban.

Oh. I had apparently adblocked one specific photobucket picture, and therefore my adblock somehow decided I would prefer to see none.

Wasn't that were the Scottish turned back on one of their invasions?

Re: Tales of Home [5]
It was an historical reenactment?
I think they covered that invasion on QI, and when Stephen Fry said they turned back at York Sean Locke replied something to the effect of, "That was obviously were they ran out of stuff to drink then."
Might tease at being a bit offensive perhaps, but I found it amusing.
