Re: Tales of Home [5]
I love the out doors, I love woods ! I like the last pic best I think, the one with the mini cave. And the fag smoke gives an etheral touch ? ( Cutters Choice, Old Holborn, Golden Virginia ???)

I used to live in Pitsea nr Basildon yonks ago, I could see Corringham from our "Cell Block H" & thinking how alien it all felt. I have to say, I fooking hated that area ! was glad to move away.

That looks very nice, Lance! It must be windy there, though?

Re: Tales of Home [5]
How do I navigate? If I needed to go around using an actual physical map then there are plenty of other landmarks like rivers or small wooded areas in between the towns.
Ringo - it isn't really. We are quite sheltered from wind in this part of the country. A bit further north and you have the north sea and in the west is the Atlantic but in our little corner there is only the English channel for any wind to get up. Also the driest part of the country here (which isn't saying much).
Azriel - the new docks are open now and halfway through construction. I can see them from southend seafront and also from my desk in London 40 miles from southend. Going down the A 13 from grays through to docklands isn't very nice at all.

Lovely pics Lance. Especially the bees and butteflies. Good to see them about in numbers again.
But yeah, it is scarily flat- Im with Norc, Id get befuddled and bewildered, I navigate by hills.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
Agreed! Even in the midwest where I grew up, we had lovely bluffs and valleys alongside the Mississippi by which to tell where what was and how far back.
Out here everything is relative to the "mountains" (glorified hill-ranges) along the coast. So that people are always going "Over the Hill" and back again.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Re: Tales of Home [5]
too flat, man.. and how do u navigate like with rivers and woods?! they all look the same if you're lost... i navigate by sea and mountains... aim for the fjord and you'll find a road!
Re: Tales of Home [5]
I'd find it weird just not having a horizon- my horizons are pretty close really, no matter what direction I look in there is a loch or hills in the way, never more than 20 miles away in any direction, for the most part a lot closer.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
Well... There isn't much to navigate. The south east is well built up so you would really spend more than half an hour before hitting a road or something. I have no need to navigate....
Re: Tales of Home [5]
Been some rather spectacular, if weird skies over Scotland of late- heres some pics all taken on the same day but at different locations around the country-
And my personal favourite, the upside down rainbow- probably an omen, the universe smiles on Scottish independence!

Re: Tales of Home [5]
nice the rainbow is probably a part of a circle around the sun, which is made when it's either ice crystals or dirt in the air. loving those sky photos.
Re: Tales of Home [5]
The universe doesn't smile upon independence. Rowling has spoken!!
It has been quite windy up in the heavens recently. The clouds around here were crazy last weekend.
