Re: Tales of Home [5]
hmm... i like those, that's the kind they have in hotels, ya? but do they shut in the heat?
Re: Tales of Home [5]
Yeah, like they have in hotels. When I went to Alaska we had 18+ hours of daylight (even in the panhandle, the southern part of the state) but you'd never know it from the hotel room.
I'm not sure if they affect heat, but unless it's raining you could leave the windows open behind them and/or turn on a fan (or A/C).

Re: Tales of Home [5]
hah, air-condition.... i don't think anyone in norway has that, except in cars...and fans makes noises...
well, i need air coming in from my windows, and i think perhaps big heavy curtains may be a bad idea..

Re: Tales of Home [5]
As promised - brought the phone with me when me and a friend went out camping/drinking last week, and some of the pictures I took are decent enough to post!
This is the lake we went to, from left to right:
Poor quality on this one, but we never go far without "karskkjel'n"! (which is the kettle in the bottom left of the picture for you foreigners )
This one is taken as the sun is coming back up, somewhere between around 03:00 - 04:00 in the morning (we cannot quite boast of having the midnight sun down here, but the sunrise in summer is still a beautiful thing and something you don't get to see unless you're up all night)
These pics are from the same area, but a couple of miles to the south. It's a hill we went to on the morning that overlooks the entire area, and my poor iPhone camera doesn't do the view justice by a long shot, but the pics are enough to give you an idea of what the place looks like at least:
On the way back from said hill:
I also went for a walk in the area where I grew up and took some pictures, but I've got them on another computer so I'll upload those later

Beautiful! Much wildlife?

There are birds of all sorts in the area, and we spotted quite a few. There's also a lot of moose there, and fox, but sadly we saw none.
Mrs Figg - the snowy mountain is one I would've liked a much better camera for. It is very impressive and the distance is huge, even if it doesn't look that big in the picture. I'm glad you liked it, though, the view of the mountain alone is worth the walk up that hill

Re: Tales of Home [5]
your photos make me realize why Fyordlandians love Tolkien so much, you live in landscape that is about as Middle Earth as its possible to find, it natually evokes sagas and High Romance.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
oooh, beautiful pictures makes me wanna go hiking too, although we just now got summer weather so all the rivers have exploded therefore the terrain is very wet and yeah but loving the little lake/water and that sunrise i can't wait for vacation to begin and being able to just walk in the middle of the night in the forest and/or on mountains

It might explain why the first chapters of FotR are my favourite chapters of the trilogy, though I've never thought of it that way
Norc - take pictures and share them here, the little I've seen from up there is pretty spectacular

Re: Tales of Home [5]
btw, if a window suddenly cracks on the inside... is that a good thing? is it a bad sign? what may be the cause of it? (i'll post a picture)

Re: Tales of Home [5]
How serene & relaxing those pics are Ringo ! Enjoyed them ! Im lucky to have lots of lovely lush greenery round me, & in the summer, when its quiet, I pretend its the Shire. With the trees, all leafy & green, arching their heads together over a road, or, fields brimming with birds, butterflies & the warm heady perfume of grass & wild flowers.

Norc.......Expansion & contraction ? Extremes of tempreture ? Tho I guess your buildings take all that more into contention than maybe us Brits would ?

Re: Tales of Home [5]
I would imagine that would be from constriction and expansion of the frame around the glass. However that seems a bit odd unless there's really been a lot of movement.
I looked it up and it's most likely from the house itself settling. The frame would press on the edges of the glass, bending it until it cracked.
Or poltergeists.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
well, it was warmer than usual, 25C maybe more, and that wall faces the sun almost all day, but nothing more than i would expect it to handle. perhaps it was the sudden drop in temperatuer... hmmm...azriel wrote:Norc.......Expansion & contraction ? forest, i dunno. i agree, it's probably the frame that has movied, not the glass, but the house is over 20 years, it should have settled enough..
