Re: Tales of Home [5]
yes.. they have the "northernmost McDonald's in the world and have made a big number out of it... but now that i googled it, there is one in Finland that claims to be it but according to Wikipedia the one in Murmansk is further north... anyway, we can't have one because it fucks up their marketing.Pettytyrant101 wrote:The Canadians stop you having a MacDonalds?
although we have the northernmost burger king.....

Re: Tales of Home [5]
if you have to make a choice (between two fast but substandard eating experiences) Burger King has somewhat better food. But McDonald's wins on coffee (if only they'd focus the same quality on the rest of their food) and ice cream.
There's a McDonald's literally across the street from me. Only go their about once a month, mainly for the hash browns. Way better than pop-tarts.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
imagine instead of boiling jam inside cardboard ala pop tart, its like boiling brown sponge you get in car seats, toasted on the exterior with lard. thats a hash brown.
edit. oh and they put boiling maple syrup over the lot.

Exams....... Yeah, I know exactly what you're saying.
I'm done for the semester. Though this is how my desk was looking towards the end.
A bit of a mess? Yes.

I thought exams might be the explanation to your absence Congratulations, blue! Any plans for your summer vacation?

Thank you, Ringo.
Hm, some vacation hopefully. No big plans at the moment.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
That is why I never did well in school.... I am just not that organised. Also I hated it which didn't help things.
Re: Tales of Home [5]
haha, that's cute blue, i had the whole dinnertable covered in chemistry notes/books/old exams etc. etc. messy... and it was there for a week, my mom was a bit upset, but we ate dinners in the living room ... oh and did i mention my sister also had chemistry exam same date as me (we're twins, same year) so double the amount of clutter.. too bad i didn't take a photo..
anyways, i am done with all the written ones now. had bokmål today and nynorsk yesterday.... aaaah.... feels lovely.. next week the oral exams start...

Re: Tales of Home [5]
just wanted to share something. i did this while waiting for the exam papers to be delivered.. i had like half an hour or something with no internet...
Re: Tales of Home [5]
Ah, so that's what you do while waiting for an exam to start. I always wondered..
We normally meet up 90 minutes in advance of exams because of book controls, so I tend to read my notes twice and then just sit and stear at the wall for half an hour.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
It was a smallish exam, so not that many notes to muddle up. But I find it amusing that the desk kind of reflected the state of my head at that moment. As in muddled.
I'm not going to get a reputation for being organized around here from that picture, am I?
Well, you should certainly have some congratulations as well then.
And, yeah, I get that that feels great after 13 years.

i feel like a grumpy old woman but the neighbour kids are having a party and i just want them to shut the fuck up because i wanna sleep!!
Re: Tales of Home [5]
Dont knock it Norc ! Your not a 'old woman'! At least children are happy & make happy sounds even if it does drive you crackers, Im up early most mornings cos I live in a flat (ground floor) & the fooking neighbours above me do nothing but fight ! swearing, arguing, door slamming, throwing things about, sounds like a fooking war up there ! I complain to the correct authorities & nothing gets done so, I keep a very handy 2X4 by my door, just in case ? They also like to drag their fight down the stairwell were it echos so much, & out onto the street, Then, after all the........"fuck off !!! Get out !!! etc"...... its "love ya babe".....?????? WTF ????? 5 fooking years of this ! theyve had a warning letter from the Council & thats it !!! Oh, like THATS gonna do any good !Norc wrote:i feel like a grumpy old woman but the neighbour kids are having a party and i just want them to shut the fuck up because i wanna sleep!!

Not feel like moving?
I think I must be getting old too. Went for a pub lunch at a place about 10 mins drive from me yesterday. Amazing how quickly concrete and glass turns to fields an trees!
It was lovely hearing the noises of birds and trees rather than cars and lawnmowers. I would quite like to move a bit further out of town.... but then the train station wouldnt be a 5 minute walk from my front door!!

Re: Tales of Home [5]
I am defo an intolerant old fart these days, the local cafe has an outdoor bit with tables, I like sitting there reading my newspapers in peace but its always full of smokers blowing their toxic smoke in my face, talking at full volume (Italians dont do low volume ), screaming kids running about, and general argy bargy. I just want to stand up shout 'SILENZIO you fuckers!!!!! or turn green and watch them run.

Re: Tales of Home [5]
I don't like loud people. And it's definitely cultural. I have some Jamaicans living next door to me. Sweetest quietest people when I meet them in the hallway, but when they lapse into their native dialect at home (next to my bedroom) they always sound like they are getting emotionally worked up over every single conversation. I'm mentoring a Jamaican student now, and she herself says (being very quiet and sweet with me in person) that Jamaicans will always sound like they are fighting in normal conversation.
