I went swimming at Easter (though not trough a dare.) God that was freezing. I think my toes are still cold.  Razz

There's a difference between stupid dares and crazy dares.

Which one is more likely to get you killed?   scratch   I'm backing Norc up on this one.  Some dares are worth accepting as proof of gumption.  But they must be accepted with breezy nonchalance, or all is lost.

I agree. The important thing is that you choose to do it or not to do it.  It's the nonchalance, the taking ownership of the decision away from the darer, that makes you cool,  not the act itself.  Dares are a power game, and if you feel like you're being forced to do something, then you've just lost. Nod

I think you've analyzed your way to the root of it, I was going more on intuition. With this logical framework in mind the other reason nonchalance is important is to say in effect "You think THAT is a challenge? It's piffling. By direct implication YOU, sir, are piffling."

Wow. That's probably a good deal colder then when I did it (which is annoying.) I would recommend jumping straight in though, I find it's a lot it's a lot easier. Though you might not want to tell the people you challenged that.

Impressive.  Nod

Good job! Metal  At the moment of truth you didn't hesitate. I'm not sure having to wade out to deep enough water made it harder or easier. Possibly harder. But....um....you didn't get your head under.

jervenduken va dritdigg, Ringo Nod

i think it's harder to wade out because if you're quick enough the pain last shorter. and no, i didn't dip my head under because i am honestly a pussy.. not a very strong swimmer and i absolutely hate water. you guys have no idea how many self-afflicted traumas i had to defeat..

honestly though, i might go again... i challenged a group of other friends on facebook Very Happy

Looks like this fad is getting out of hand. I also hate how they say it's "for charity." Pfffff.

Brooklyn Park bridge jumper could be charged after charity stunt

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KMSP) - Police in Brooklyn Park spent hours searching the Mississippi River after someone was seen jumping off the 610 West River Road Bridge, but it turns out, jumper’s intentions were to raise money for charity by plunging into cold water.

The Hennepin County Water Patrol was called to the scene around 8:35 p.m.Wednesday and used helicopters and boats to scan the river. The search caused major traffic backups along Highway 610.

The river jump was all part of a social media trend called the “Cold Water Challenge” that involves documenting a jump into bitter cold water, then challenging others to do the same, or donate money to charity.

PENALTY

The man was wearing a life jacket and was able to swim safely to shore. Both the jumper and the individual who recorded the stunt and uploaded it to Instagram could face charges.

“This individual engaged in risky behavior that put both his life and the lives of first responders in jeopardy. I strongly advise against participating in attention seeking stunts that waste valuable resources,” Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said.

This cold water challenge (or Hopp i havet ) has given over 2.000.000 NOK (Roughly 200.000£) to the Norwegian Cancer Association.

For a while it was the trend to challenge people and say they had to buy so-an-so many bottles of wine or whatever to the one who challenged you, if you didn't take the challenge. Then people turned it into gift to charity, Red Cross and so on, in stead.

Charity is weird- I will gladly give some of money to this good and worthy cause- but only if you first throw yourself in the sea, climb a mountain or do some other physically exhausting or bloody stupid thing.

How screwed up is that? Just give them the fucking money you weirdos!!  Evil or Very Mad
