I'm not entirely sure why it's offensive, but then again, I don't take much of what Odo says seriously anymore.
Re: Homosexuality and LotR
I don't think anyone does since he started this respectability lark.

Steady, young Squach, steady! My dear, I've always said, if one "thinks" something then it must be true - especially if someone "thinks" something nice about me. And even if Ally was slightly in error - and I'm sure she can't be, for Ally is a wise young young lady who admires Syd Barrett - then she can't possibly be far wrong - not if she's saying I'm the best, at least! I really can't fathom you're thinking sometimes, young Squach!
As to you Queen Tin, your Majesty, if one reads the Bible, you'll find no approval for homosexuality, in fact, condemnation. I refer to Jehovah's Bble. Of course, in the Illuvataran (the New Modernity Version written by GB - or one of his friends) relations between consenting adults is their own business. Nonetheless, reading Jehovah's Bible one would think homosexuality more in line with Satan's influence than that of Jehovah Himself. Saint Paul didn't approve neither. That was the only point I was making.
BUT..... It's a curious thing, but Satan in Jehovah's Bible was not really much like the Evil Angel most Christians think He is. Maybe more Christians should actually read their bible and not pay so much attention to other folk preaching it! You know Priests and T.V. Evangelists... You know, read Jehovah's Bible and draw their own conclusions of that huge work. As to Saint Paul, he had a right to his opinions I guess. Bit of a nutter really, but I've always liked him. He was so sincere, just a bit mad as I said! Here to help!

Well I certainly could be in error, a seventeen year old probably shouldn't find you as great as I do, though seventeen year olds should spend their evenings getting smashed outside, not talking about hobbits on the internet! But if it makes you feel any better, you can take my opinion as Fact.

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
Sometimes even old folk like me (who know just about everything that's worth knowing) can have a revelation. Ally - you are clearly the wisest girl I've ever met! Forget what I said about the Thinklings Thread. You are most welcome there from now on! You've earned inclusion. I name you "Honorary Boy". ((())) No, think nothing of it!
As to what young girls should be doing - they should do exactly what they think they should be doing. I was never one for peer groups myself, just one for finding friends who you can talk things over with - and agree to disagree with where necessary. I'm no peer-groupy as I suggested above, nor anyone's clone neither! I commend you for being yourself. (But remember to keep your disrespectable aspects and traits to yourself - that's only respectable).
(((((((((((Btw while I am no clone, as stated, I can't claim I'm not someone else's alter ego, and that's a different thing altogether - and our little secret, Ally! ))))))))))

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
Nonetheless, Odo, I find it offensive, considering the horribly negative connotation that Satan has, comparing that to homosexuality is inappropriate. I know several people who would take offense to it. So I ask to please be respectFUL, and not pair things to Satan, no matter what Bibles say.

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
I mean no offense, your Majesty, but many Christians (as do many people of other religions and cultures for that matter) find homosexuality abhorrent. Linking homosexuality and Satan in this context is not actually offensive (or meant to be offensive), I just make a statement of fact. Satan (on one Christian interpretation) wants people to Sin. The Bible says pretty much that homosexuality is a Sin. Can you deny it? I'm curious to know what exactly you find offensive in what I'm saying?

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
I think Tin has misunderstood you - she thinks (correct me if I'm wrong, Tin) that you meant that being homosexual means you go to hell. Of course your comment was a joke, but was perhaps not perceived that way. Like a great hobbit once said: Here to help

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
Err.. while I did not actually say that homosexuals will go to hell, according to the "view" I mentioned, homosexuals could very well go to hell - unless they repent. Yes, some Christian groups accept homosexuality and even have homosexual Pastors. But, I would suggest, there would be many more Christian groups that abhor homosexuality. In accordance with the latter "view", a strict reading of the Bible would I think show that God (and Saint Paul) don't approve of homosexuality. Bishop Spong, for one, would probably throw out the Bible if he could... Nonetheless, as I said, a strict reading of the Bible gives the understanding that "Sodomy" and other "unnatural" acts are anathema to God. We can't escape this fact, surely?
Btw I am not expressing "my" view on homosexuality here. I'm just reporting the facts as I see them.
Also, for the record, I'm an agnostic, though I still believe firmly in Illuvatar.

Re: Homosexuality and LotR
I think Gimli and Galadriel got it on. (She was fascinated by the beard.) I remember reading somewhere, can't seem to locate it, but it was said that Galadriel obtained the special dispensation for him...clearly she missed her little hairy love muffin.
So the suggestion of Legolas and Gimli as a couple is barking up the wrong tree.
