Orwell's Mobile Songs

Fine flolloping and vlooming should come with the caveat that it should only be attempted by adults with years of experience and no fear, and dont even think about velloloping in a kilt, ever.   

I don't plan to ever do anything wearing a kilt let alone that disgusting Hebridean practice! And that doesn't mean I ever plan to do nothing in a kilt either!   

Oh I dont know, give those knees an airing.

Thanks again Azriel. Both were written last year. I have been trying to write more catchy stuff as I feel much of the stuff I've written over the last thirty years takes a few listens before they catch the ear - that is, the ones I've had positive responses to over time. One day I hope that Number One comes along --- though, funnily enough, I'm not sure if any of my favorite songs by anyone have ever been Number Ones. I guess my plan is to have that Number One to get me on the map then hope folk will then come to appreciate the songs I feel closest to. It's a cunning plan, though methinks more accurately a cunning hope than a plan.  

I'm, guessing for all the time that has passed the easiest way to get a Scotshobbit to Australia is still transportation.   

(Leaving things open for you to make a quite insightfull comment about how the 73rd regiment of foot and the people behind the Rum rebellion were mostly Scottish, Orwell.)

We've given up accepting Scotshobbits (for obvious reasons!) Funny you should bring up transportation though Blue (however randomly   though  you are Fjordianalandian!)  I was thinking about the Ozhobbit persona only this morning. We don't take anyone important seriously because we've learned to distrust those (supposedly) better than us. We're substantially classless because we know we bear the convict stain. Anyone who comes gets dipped in it I believe - perhaps the first time they dive into our perfect seas and learn to outswim sharks.  Once we were ashamed and cringed at the convict stain but nowadays we think it's cool.  

Yeah, a bit out of left field perhaps. But when talking about Scotshobbits and travelling to Australia it felt a natural joke.   

There is of course that wondeful quote in the Inspector Morse episode they filmed in Australia. Where a British prisoner has been sent to Australia through witness protection, without telling the Australian police, and an Australian policeman says something to the effect of "I thought you had stopped sending your prisoners down here. Transportation ended more than a 100 years ago, for God's sake."

And I guess it has left it's mark on the Australian spirit, yes.  

We had a Cultural Cringe... we don't anymore, because all our true Intelligentsia have gone to Europe (thank God Germaine's gone!) so we don't have anyone here to remind us it was ever anything other than a yummy cake. I might be thinking of a Cream Sponge though. Luckilly, I'm free to say anything I like and not care if it makes any sense. I'm an Ozhobbit, and that means Freedom.  

Culturally cringeworthy, Orwell... or should I say - Odo?   

Huh? It couldn't be... or could it? I mean, I thought you were drownded long ago!  

On the suggestion of the Missus (not the first time) I've started seeing a psychologist. I know... I know... you guys have been thinking... Gawd! Shouldn't he have done that years ago? Yes, my Missus has been trying - in more ways than one - to get me to do it.

Now, I hasten to say, I'm not mad. I'll state that from the start. I'm a just a bit needy, which is of course quite obvious to anyone who knows me.

Anyway, the psychologist suggested that I could always put some of my thoughts into words or a song. Well, says I, that's exactly the way I like to deal with things as a matter of fact. I turn things into poetry, gloss things over a bit that way. In poetry, I can hint at what I really want to say but am usually too scared to say out loud -- Poetry (or hints) are okay, you see - even in Ozhobbitstan - but it's never appropriate to fully spill your guts.

So I wrote this song. A form of revelation but also a cowards approach. Poets are cowards, but I guess you guys already knew that. Creativity, I sometimes feel, is the haunt of the coward. Which is not to say I lack empathy with poets as I'm clearly a coward in this way myself.

Why would I put the song - only in its rough stages of composition - on Youtube? Because I'm Orwell McOdo, that's why, and don't you forget it!   

Mm, what is the right response to that song as 'I liked that' seems somewhat inappropriate- I will settle for that touched on a mood and feelings that have all the hallmarks of being genuine, and truth combined with the bravery to be honest always lends weight and extra meaning to any artistic work.

Keep singing Orwell, and keep posting them.
