Re: The Riddle-Game
sister stars in the deep
This could be gems underground. Stars reflected in a pool or river or lake or the sea.
where night lies
Is this a play on words? Where it appears to be night but is not? (Night, lies). Underground, sounds like to me. Or else deep underwater.
but only the dead sleep
Continuation of that night idea. So not a regular night, but one in which there are only dead things. Graveyards, old battlefields...
black as pitch
Darkness, or evil?
moonlight dies
So moonlight is also dead. Moonlight could be said to "die" as it shines further down into water. Eventually the moonbeams would fail.
no ocean as cold
no cavern as old
OK. This sounds like the place is somewhat supernatural. It certainly sounds primeval, as if it were the lair of the White Walkers from GoT.
ancient poems unfold
So, a modern place that retells the stories of the past? Or an ancient place of which there are poems now. Or a place that has a connection to ancient times in the way that Osgiliath and Lothlorien and Fangorn and such have.
the traveller may not follow
those shining jewels
Something unattainable, for travelers. Or at least a traveler, which is presumably the sort of person that would see this place, is unable to... touch stars? for example? Or follow them over the horizon as they set?
the wanderer in the hollow
the depths so cruel
A hollow. A hollow in the depths. A wanderer (or traveler?) in a physical hollow? Or someone who is hollow. An ent with a hollow bole? Or perhaps Gollum. The cruel depths of the Misty Mountains betrayed Gollum, for all he found there was want and hunger and torment.
Well I don't yet know.

OK. This sounds like the place is somewhat supernatural. It certainly sounds primeval, as if it were the lair of the White Walkers from GoT. I want it to feel ancient and a bit spooky
ancient poems unfold
So, a modern place that retells the stories of the past? Or an ancient place of which there are poems now. YES also a Whole race has poems about this place Or a place that has a connection to ancient times in the way that Osgiliath and Lothlorien and Fangorn and such have.

those shining jewels
Something unattainable, for travelers. Or at least a traveler, which is presumably the sort of person that would see this place, is unable to... touch stars? for example? Or follow them over the horizon as they set? You couldnt follow these particular stars, even though most people navigate by them normally
the wanderer in the hollow
the depths so cruel
Re: The Riddle-Game
I might have it. Is it Kheled-zaram? Or Mirrormere, if you like. Or perhaps you might prefer Nen Cenedril.
Damnit, it's probably not. But where else can you find stars that you cannot follow but normally would navigate by???
In the Mirrormere Durin saw the stars of his crown despite the fact that it was daylight at the time. But then the stars of his crown were probably not "sisters." But then two members of the Fellowship did look into the lake.
I am really upset now that it probably isn't Kheled-zaram.

Re: The Riddle-Game
I'm quite pleased with this one! I read a line from a book about something commonplace and started to think of a riddle about it. After getting one idea for it I realized that that single idea worked as a riddle by itself. Anyway, bring on the guesses!

Re: The Riddle-Game
Some guesses first please. Hints are voluntary after all. I do have one excellent hint, but I don't want to give the riddle away so easily.

It is the sky, well done!
Oh and sure Petty it's going to be a nun being kicked down a hill. It's not like the riddle says "I am never kicked" right in the first and only line or anything.

Re: The Riddle-Game
I was lost but now I am found
hidden under the stony ground
far away came a sweet sound
silver trumpets and a king crowned
He toiled long over hill and dale
the new moon shining pale
he found me lying White and frail
on that lonely mountain trail
in the morning Towers bright
shimmering in the silver light
homewards came to my delight
and in that ancient lofty space
did I return and show my face
and blossom did grace that blessed place
hidden under the stony ground
far away came a sweet sound
silver trumpets and a king crowned
He toiled long over hill and dale
the new moon shining pale
he found me lying White and frail
on that lonely mountain trail
