Very Happy
"Nothing to do with South Park" he says.
Suspicious says I!

No to all so far, not Water or darkness or Huorns or a reflection.
It is certainly Tolkien-related.

Upon further thought "blood of the sun" was perhaps disingenuous on my part. The idea I was trying to get across was that it consumes light.

Here:
Like to a star am I,
Yet below, not above.
And in truth, opposite effect have I,
Producing what it defeats.

I drink and consume the light,
All living things are my feast.
Trapping the strong is my delight,
I devour both man and beast.

I still think Huorns is the closest answer.

It is closest, you're right. You guys just need to shift focus onto something similar in the Tolkien legendarium.

sister stars in the deep
where night lies
but only the dead sleep
black as pitch
moonlight dies
no ocean as cold
no cavern as old
ancient poems unfold
the traveller may not follow
those shining jewels
the wanderer in the hollow
the depths so cruel

Can't be. There are colder oceans, and older caverns in the world than the Dead Marshes (which is a swamp, not a cavern anyway).
Could it be something to do with the fall of Numenor?

Paths of the Dead?  I think that fits the traveller/poem part.

It would seem that the answer to the riddle is the "sister stars" or "shining jewels" that are mentioned. I don't really see the answer being a place.
