Re: The Riddle-Game
DING DING DING!!!!! Got it halfy! A present from Felagund to Barahir, then passed down to Beren who married Luthien, and their heirs also received the ring until Aragorn gave it to Arwen as a token of his love
You're up!
You're up!

Re: The Riddle-Game
A forger, a defier, a banner,
An unrequited lover.
Linchpin of history, so rarely described.
(Yes Forest, these have tended towards middle earth, but that's where our interest lies.)

Re: The Riddle-Game
I read the second word of that as "defiler" and was afraid you had made an Azog-themed poem for a minute.
Anyway, I'm not totally confident in this guess, but is it Morgoth?

Nope.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Waaaaaait a minute. Is it Celebrimbor?
Edit: I haven't been sleeping enough for this, but I'm almost certain now. He's certainly a forger, defier, and banner, though I was thinking of different meanings for some of those words at first.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Yep. Sucker. Now it's your turn.
(Celibrimbor's body carried as a banner for Sauron's troops is one of the most vivid images around. But I never felt the character of Celebrimbor himself was explored as much as deserved.)

Re: The Riddle-Game
When I started thinking of "forger" in terms of metalworking instead of fraud I suspected Celebrimbor, and then I remembered the banner thing. which convinced me.. I agree, he's a fascinating character from what glimpses we have.
Now to think up of a good riddle. {{{}}}

Re: The Riddle-Game
We could take Forest's suggestion and move it away from ME trivia more into the realm of the original riddle game.

like this one..
The longer I am
the louder the maidens scream
stroke me dont pull me
I am the cat who got the cream
I swish and hiss
I may have fleas
That doesnt stop me from being
a fangirls dream.

Re: The Riddle-Game
What "cream" did Thorin's hair get?
And yes, I did mention the trivia thing, but then I posted a rather trivial Tolkien riddle pretty early on too.
Variety would be the best way to approach it, as I haven't read as much as many of those posting.

I think they were all using library paste. Which reminds me of a limerick:
A newlywed couple named Kelly
Spent their honeymoon belly to belly
for because in their haste
they used library paste
Instead of petroleum jelly.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Ahem, I invoke the right to take that which others have abandoned!
I am the voice that calls the pack,
I am that which wilds the tame.
I belong to the rushing mountain rivers,
and the eternally frozen tundra plain.
I unsettle the meek,
and frenzy the fiercest.
The claw that cuts,
the tooth that pierces.
I am the challenger of society,
the breaker of spirits.
My voice is heard within,
by all whom hear it.

Re: The Riddle-Game
I wanna say it has something to do with the wargs in ASOIAF, but that might be because I have George R.R. Martin on the mind right now (reading ADWD).
