Re: The Riddle-Game
Perhaps a winged helm?

Re: The Riddle-Game
Hm.. I need to reread RotK apparently. The only helm similar to that that I can think of would have to be either the dragon-helm-thing from Children of Hurin or else the headgear worn by the guards of the citadel. I'm sure Halfwise can jump in and nail this one, no worries.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Halfwise is bothered by the lake swimming among other things, or else he'd say Aragorn's King's helm. But it's not an official guess 'cause it doesn't fit so it ain't being said.

The crown of Gondor, specifically?
Edit: I see Halfy beat me to that guess, or he would have if it was an actual guess.
Re: The Riddle-Game
no. its not the crown of Gondor.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Now see here. There's only two winged helmets that I know about, either the guard of the white tree or the Crown of Gondor. I don't see the guard doing both leading and following, or any dratted swimming for that matter. So that only leaves one winged helmet left. Not that there's any swimming there either.

Imrahil? Did he have a helmet? I know their thing was the swan in Dol Amroth...

Re: The Riddle-Game
WHOOP WHOOP! I'm getting good at these!!!!!
Alright, let's see...
The first of many gifts between elves and men
Passed down by the result of the largest gift
Which was repeated by cousins in the third age
In which this first gift was given back from one race to another.
What is the first gift?

Re: The Riddle-Game
This seems to have almost departed the realm of riddling and is nearing the realm of Tolkien Trivia!
Then again, this is Forumshire, and so the riddling subjects are appropriate. I'm just frustrated that I can't remember what we're talking about.
Although, to be fair, Petty's was pretty darn vague, coming from a source outside of the commonly-read literature.
But the answer to this one can probably be found in The Silmarillion.
And hey, is it just me or do the second and third lines of Tinuviel's riddle suggest that these cousins marry each other?

Yeah... not the best worded one I'll admit.

Oh, that's not right. I know what it is, but will wait until I come up with a riddle to say. Someone may beat me to it.
