Yeah, I just wanted to share it somewhere. Apparently others don't find it as amusing as I did though.

Re: The Riddle-Game
So it looks like Halfwise has, once again, gone awol.
So here's a little riddley bit of prose.
Two adventurers traveling down a mountain.
One skipped and sang with happiness,
the other stepped downward with heavy tread.
Two friends crossing a sunny field.
With wandering steps went one,
pausing to smell wildflowers and look for frogs.
The other kept an eye on the horizon,
set his feet resolute in line as to a march.
Two companions found a lake.
"A swim I shall take, for the water is cool!" called one.
"Far too deep to cross, I will keep to the shore," was the other's reply.
And so they parted.

Rules #7 from the first page:
7. If a correct guess is confirmed by the riddler, and the guesser does not answer within a week, anyone may go next (but only one at a time).
Apparently not everyone reads these rules!
I mean, after all, we can't all be stuck here with no riddles while someone neglects their turn.
Gollum, at least, would certainly not stand for it.
Nice try

I was reading this literally, and couldn't cipher it out. Figgs went deep, and I think should win by default for a plausible and satisfying answer.
(no, you're not getting a riddle from me. I'm sticking to the rule book. )

Re: The Riddle-Game
Yes well done, that is the answer!
(didn't see that coming did you Mrs. Figg, heheh).
And what is this nonsense about not putting up a riddle!?!?!
If you don't want to play the riddle game, then don't play. You can always go hiking back up the tunnels and play with the goblins instead.
But if you do want to play, then you have to obey the actual rules, which are that out of politeness, decency, and the will to not be eaten you MUST put up a riddle after correctly answering some other person's.
This halfway involvement is like some kid asking others if he can play soccer, and then running away with the ball as soon as they pass to him.

I'm sure Halfwise would be fine with it. He's not exactly been the most prompt of all riddlers.

Whoooo!!!
Legendary are we,
Many are we,
Our eyes are spies,
No nobles are we,
Yet by Royal decree
We went to sea.

I'm more prompt in guessing them than in making them up. Quite happy to let Petty take my turn as I slept. But will try to have a riddle waiting before I provide an answer next time.

Conversely, if someone else can take your turn whenever you guess, then that would be ok too. The only thing I don't like is having to wait a whole week in-between riddles.

Re: The Riddle-Game
Petty, is the palantiri?- Eldo
No, but damn it reading it back I am struggling to think of a reason why palantiri wouldn't also fit it though.
But it wasn't the answer I had in mind.

All I can think of is privateers and false messengers to foreign countries and, perhaps, some kind of thing where one of the less nice -Tar kings in Tolkien sent someone out to do something.

Eagles, then? I don't know if they went to sea, but they had to report to Manwe -- King of Arda -- somehow. {{{}}}
