Re: The Riddle-Game
Brilliant riddle, Forest. I thought long and hard on it, and when Halfwise said "Mr Underhill" it seemed so obvious. Good one

Thanks Ringdrotten!
Now, Carcharoth, it is your turn.
Although, I must say, it's rather devious to ask a riddle in written form that clearly is meant to be asked in its spoken form.
Perhaps "eyes" should be in quotations, or something.
Or not, better to keep it tricky.

Re: The Riddle-Game
I don't talk in riddles when sober, so I'll just give you a simple one I've heard before
The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end
And the end of every place
The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end
And the end of every place

Re: The Riddle-Game
Halfwise seems to be missing out on the whole continuation theme of this game...
(It's your turn!)
Edit:
Further edit:
Final Edit: A week has passed since the last correctly guessed riddle, and so here is mine:
Feared by the hunter,
and sent from below.
This thing carries death,
yet out of life grows.
Given as reason to avoid civilized places
and fired out of anger, from surly grim faces.

FINALLY.
Bow and Arrow? That's a partial answer, I'd say. Explain?

Re: The Riddle-Game
Well,
"Feared by the hunter
and sent from below"
bow and arrows are typically fired from below at a target in the sky
"give as reason to avoid civilized places"
the eagles would avoid populated places because men would try to kill them.
idk

Re: The Riddle-Game
Yes, spot on. Hit the mark. In The Hobbit the Lord of the Eagles says that he is not willing to take them any farther east than they do, for if they were to fly over any settlements of men, the Woodsmen would shoot at them, thinking they were hunting their sheep. (Of course that same night the eagles bring them a lamb to cook for dinner, so.)bungobaggins wrote:Well,

Re: The Riddle-Game
Ahhh, yes, time for some more riddling!
Gatherer of the second house,
A spark of bright light,
The last of that which sought to hold,
Against the foe a fiery fight.
Staunch against the mortal foe,
Suspicious of the molten skill,
Heralded by the wise of lore,
to whom was passed the firmament.
Enjoy!

Re: The Riddle-Game
Gosh there sure is a lot of back-story to the "Light of Earendil, our most beloved star" as Galadriel puts it in the film.azriel wrote:The light of Earendil ?
The vial she gifted Frodo was water from her mirror. I never really got that for some reason. I should read the book again. Or else I'm mistaken.
It's in the ballpark Azriel, not the right answer though. Good try!

No closer this time, but still in the right direction.
I expect line-by-line interpretations, none of this fly-by-the-seat!
