looks like it might be a better FILM than the other one though- Tin

I wish he would just bugger off and make his own films- this didnt need to piss all over Tolkiens writing. PJ has made most of this up anyway and produced a cliche ridden, unimaginative, video game plot lined film anyway, it doesn't need any association with Tolkien's good name, characters or story. Petty you'll have your work cut out doing DOS parody, its one long parody with bits of Tolkien stuck in willy nilly.

PJ hasn't made a non-adaptation since The Frighteners in 1996 though, and that was considered a disappointment.  Incidentally, that was also PJ's first movie made through the Hollywood studio system, having previously been a New Zealand-only indie director.

It would be interesting to see what the current, middle-aged PJ would make of an original movie compared to his early stuff, though. Smile

To be honest, his scene with Tauriel reminded me more of Elrond telling Aragorn to break up with Arwen than anything else. Razz
I just wanted to say the same Smile

Apart from that I don't think that it looks that bad. (except for the Azog's-back-from-the-dead-story, but I didn't like that in the first place...)
And I like Benedict Cumberbatch's voice anyhow... Very Happy
And yeah.... I thought that Bard reminded me of someone....

But to be honest: I like this trailer better than the first one! The first one was just important sounding sentences accompanied by fast moving pictures which didn't seem to consist of very much plot.... Neutral

Someone on the TORn forums pointed out to me that the scenes of dragon destruction are likely a flashback to Dale.  I'm curious now to see how many flashbacks we get in DOS and where they're included.  Hopefully not in another prologue.

I'd love to see him try to make an original story. But all he's been doing is adaptations. He's just like Lucas, a one-trick pony, until he proves otherwise.

Also, Legolas is using Orcirst?

Petty you'll have your work cut out doing DOS parody - Ms Figg

Its any hope of salvaging a purist edit from this I think is gone- there seems so little of the book left in any recognisable fashion. Evil or Very Mad

Early PJ made horror-comedy films, and while flashes of that come through in his later work they're still very different from his big-budget epics. And he also made Heavenly Creatures, which was a critically-acclaimed drama about a real world murder. So I don't think it's fair to characterize PJ as a one-trick pony. On the other hand, his only attempt so far at getting away from big-budget epics was The Lovely Bones, so... Neutral

Didn't PJ direct a WW1 short a few years back?

Yeah, but I'm not familiar with any of his shorts. I believe that was his first time using the RED cameras that they shot The Hobbit with though.

Heavenly Creatures was the last PJ film I enjoyed. Or that seemed in any way competent.

The worst thing about this trailer in my opinion is the action movie style Thorin jumping and waving his arms - it's not Die Hard  I agree with Eldo about Freeman, particularly the scene with Bilbo and Gandalf Smile I also agree with Tin - what was this? scratch I didn't quite understand what it was that I watched, neither the first nor the second time, and I can't say I'm impressed. I'm not disappointed either, though, as I didn't have any expectations anyway. As long as Petty gets enough to work with to make an edit as good as the first I'm happy, I guess Smile Still, I'll probably have to watch it on my own when it hits the cinemas - don't want to ruin other people's experience with negativity Laughing

LMAO  yeah what is up with that scene. Why is the dragon breathing fire at the dwarfs? Sad Jackson feels the need to make up a bunch of crap that doesn't fit with the actual story of the Hobbit. It does remind me of Die Hard though damn I would almost rather watch Die Hard 12 than this film

I kinda agree.  I actually didn't mind the first trailer that much on its own merits, just as proof that DOS would diverge even more from the book.  But this one in particular has a lot of interesting-looking stuff happening in it so my fingers are crossed that the film is enjoyable enough to watch. Because nobody had the balls to tell Jackson he was off his rocker when he opted to make drastic changes. Someone should have said something and told him that when he stuck to the book the first time around the films were at their best. But instead all the boot licking yes men on Jackson's payroll just went with the flow and let Jackson do whatever he wanted to do. Which IMO was completely OTT and far from faithful to the source material.
