Geriatric fight scene had to be in there, shows the path Saruman is taking & the strength between 2 wizards, MAYBE Lurtz scene could have been a TAD longer ? I liked the intro of Aragorn & Boromir & the lead on from where Gandy says about "reclaiming the throne of Gondor etc", So glad the simpering section between Arwen/Aragorn & his doubts about being King were cut, it makes her look to "airhead & silly", Was so much better to have arwen recite when at the forging of Narsil scene. I prefered the speech on the bridge between Arwen/Aragorn also. I like the touch over of Aragorns face as the Elves were piecing together the sword, made it feel that its HIS sword they are working on,not some bit of scrap that might come in handy. Aragorns leave of Arwen was better also, more informative with the different subbies. We obviously didnt need Saruman yodelling his heart out to bring down the mountain OR to control the weather, nor did we need Saruman to tell us about the Balrog, spoils the anticipation ! I want to find out for myself whats down there & why Gandy is worried ! "Ripe meat on the bone" speech in Moria, glad that also went, You could see as soon as you walked in there were dead bodkins about ?  why did it take Gimli so long to twig ? "

What I would give for the book confrontation between Gandalf and Saruman! The white light speech and back and forth in the hands of two such consumate actors would be electric- but no a stick fight with old men is the Pj way- its a lot shorter in mine though.
Which brings me to Lurtz- I dont make as much a deal of him as PJ does- PJ used him as a sort of surrogate bad guy- my cut doesnt (as you will see as you watch more)- the reason his appearence is short is partly that and partly timing- I felt if I had included the uruk hai 'birthing' stuff in Gandalf recounting to Frodo it would make the flashback overlong, as its long enough as is. By putting it unde Gandalfs dialogue abot Saruman building an army it doesnt actually add any more running time to the film.
I have removed all the reluctant King nonsense- I hate all that, thats not Aragorn.
For the bridge dialogue I just used dialogue from the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen from the appendices- so its all Tolkien.
The bit just before he leaves is not exactly pure cannon admittedly- but it does reflect canon ideas- that Aragorn was raised like a son by Elrond, and that he feels some guilt over splitting Arwen from her family for all eternity. When it gets to Lorien there is a follow up to the Aragorn/Arwen thing via Galadriel, but I will leave whatIve done there until youve seen it
