Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Note I am going to test the following cut when I get a chance:
- remove Introductory warg tracker orc dialogue - 46:40 -> 46:56
- remove Orc meeting with Azog scene - 1:28:55 -> 1:30:23
- remove Azog mountain pass scene - 1:45:22 -> 1:45:40
- remove Introductory warg tracker orc dialogue - 46:40 -> 46:56
- remove Orc meeting with Azog scene - 1:28:55 -> 1:30:23
- remove Azog mountain pass scene - 1:45:22 -> 1:45:40

good idea Richard, I would cut all Azog and orcs chasing the Dwarves, it just adds nonsensical drama, if I had an editing thingie I would cut all the daft snot humour too, and maybe 90% of stone giants and Goblin Town, heck I would just make my own film from scratch. I wish those guys who made Hunt for Gollum would have a go, I reckon they would get it much closer to my idea of the Hobbit. Even better HBO make a series, now that would be exciting.

You might want to give my edits a go first Richard incase they are already what youd like- it will save you a lot of hassle and outbursts of severe crabbit (well if my editing experience is anything to go by it will!)

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
I don't really think HBO would be a good fit for Tolkien. They made their name with mature, adult shows and in that sense Game of Thrones was right up their alley, but I don't think their approach would work very well for The Lord of the Rings, and definitely not for The Hobbit.

Azog has been cut and the movie is A+++

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
I disliked Azog here but I think AUJ had a lot of problems that went beyond him...

Pretty sure richard is talking about his own edit here.
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
That's right Eldorion; while it's not a purist edit, it works - and surprisingly well at that. Azog remains a mystery until the final battle scene, which works in his favour. This scene becomes more serious, including Thorin's reaction to his enemy - in which the audience is just as surprised as he is. It is evident they added in the Azog / orcish dialogue cut scenes sporadically throughout without having a clear plan on how it would fit together and affect the flow of the narrative. Removing them makes the rest of the film that much more enjoyable.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Interesting, I appreciate your perspective on that, Richard. I did get the feeling that Azog was thrown into the movie without much of a clear plan, especially given how they flipped the actors who were cast as Bolg and Azog and replaced him with CGI at the last minute.
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
I took him out entirely Richard-had him killed at the Batle of Arse and Bull at the start as should be, and thats him done and dusted.
Got rid of Raddy too and the WC scenes beyond the introductions (and I switched those round so Gandalf meets Saruman before Galadriel) depending on your tastes you might want to try those edits too.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
it is Amazing how cobbled together AUJ feels and I am no expert on editing but it feels a rush job. considering the time and money at their disposal its very odd. I think it is a great idea to do your own edits.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Yeah I flagged that up in my crabbit review of the trailer- its appalling. (And even worse in full screen HD)

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
what's up with the hand and the arrow, it looks like a computer game! i hope they fix that, they should be able to make it look better...
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Full screen you can also see how badly mapped the face is onto the computer model, not to mention the completely unnatural body movement for anyone, elf or not.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Yes but Peter Jackson is filming an (note the key word here) ADAPTATION. You can't expect him to transfer every tiny natural body movement from the characters in the book on to the screen can you now. That'd be silly.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
the hair, the hand and the face is the most off-putting
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
It's not the first time Legolas has been shoddily CGI'd into a scene.
If the trailer is any indication though, DOS might be even worse.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Think it might have been an error from copy/pasting into the WYSIWYG editor, but it should be fine now.
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
i don't think that's bad cgi, it works.. i can't tell when they switch and i think it flows very well, i mean the hair moves and everything (i am not sarcastic btw)
