I'm sure as hell not inviting Peter Jackson to my parties anymore! Just means more shrimp-on-a-toothpick for me. The delicious shrimp of sadness...
Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
And people want this guy to get his hands on the Silmarillion.

Yeah, spike their drinks, drug their food, tie them to a chair & make them watch the kids programne "Rainbow" over & over again ! Inflict mental pain on them as they have to us. I can see PJ as Baron Sardonicus after that, & threaten to put him in the Tv show "Im a celebrity..get me out of here!" for LIFE ! that should put him off even thinking of doing the SIL,

If Pj ever gets his hands on the Sil I may well have to book that flight to NZ to stop him!

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
I have no desire to see a film adaptation of The Silmarillion since I'm sure it would be a tremendous mess (especially if PJ was involved), but it would probably give a boost to forums like ours so I would have to acknowledge the silver lining.
I do wonder if PJ or the studios will try to milk anything further out of the Appendices once The Hobbit trilogy is over. I actually don't think PJ has been motivated by money so far, but rather an inability to let go. But he's said that The Hobbit will the end and he certainly has time to say his goodbyes so I wonder how interested he would be in returning. I'm sure WB would be happy for one of their cash cows to continue, though.

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
I've read elsewhere that further adaptations of Tolkien's work have been preempted by the Tolkien estate. In any case, I don't think an anthology would really work as a movie, though perhaps it could conceivably done as a series of films. Which is why it's a good thing that PJ won't be adapting them (if what I read is true).

Re: Will the extended edition make AUJ flow better?
Hey Radaghast, glad to see you posting here. You're right that the Tolkien Estate has refused to sell the rights to any of Tolkien's works (the rights to The Hobbit and LOTR were sold before Tolkien's death), so it's unlikely that we'll see any adaptations of The Silmarillion in the near future. However, some people think that after Christopher Tolkien's death others in the family will well the rights (personally I think this is rather unlikely). It's also possible that the filmmakers could try to mine the Appendices for more material, but that would basically be pure fanfiction on film.

The event of Christopher Tolkien's death was a concern for me as well, but the source I read said that that was planned for.
