Well, we might have to go to a dog show to choose Huan.

Well, to bring us back onto the BEREN AND LUTHIEN track, I'll write another part of the script. It will not be scene 2 however. I don't write in chronological order. I write whatever comes to me, then fit pieces around it.

Thank goodness someone with your maturity has arrived, Tin! Those lads were getting a bit carried away, don't you think? I look forward to your next installment.

Read your Scene, Tin. Well done! I'm a bit distracted with other projects, but I shall keep my eyes sharp. Will there be more coming?

not for 40 days I'm afraid. Finding that LOTR is my greatest obsession and love, and being the good Catholic that I am, I have given up LOTR for lent. I shall see you again in 40 days! Farewell!

I like it! It seems a bit short, but a good blend of Ye Olde Tolkienesque speaking and words that the average audience will understand. Being the impatient heathen that I am, I will have a looooong 40 day wait to see more.

Not being religious has it's advantages. Irresponsibilitybeing one of my faves, Tin. But it seems we must be patient! Does this mean we won't hear from you fo 40 days, Tin? That would seem unduly cruel of God!

Fantari
It always astonishes me whenever I see someone imagining something [i:3ntxe7qh]other[/i:3ntxe7qh] than an Irish Wolfhound for Huan. ( But then I am somewhat biased because I have had two of these great hounds in my life and am about to have a third.) Certainly though, that is what Tolkien was thinking of. ( Not that I would really like to see one be cast in that role for a movie. Movie popularity is always a very bad thing for any breed.) The Ancient Celts considered the IW to be partly human and they figure prominently in Celtic mythology in stories of intelligence and heroism. Huan is in every way an Irish Wolfhound of those myths.

yes indeed. We could start another "Born of Hope" or "Hunt for Gollum" movie here!! That would be fun!!!!
Only Luthien must be beautiful, unlike Gilraen... BLAH! :?

lol TIn! The jealousy of an immortal? I thought Gilraen was homely in her beauty rather than aristocratic beautiful. It seemed to fit with the way they presented Arathorn's character.
You know I've never ventured into this thread before- out of fear that I'd find myself being drawn into yet another writing project! But its tempting to dip in and contribute!! Even Born of Hope had to start somewhere maybe Beren and Luthien will start here.

Thank you for the welcome! I am enjoying reading this forum.. but didn't feel moved to post till I saw the Irish Wolfhound discussion. I am about to take delivery on my third hound who I had already decided to name Cuan.. partly in honor of Tolkien's Huan and partly because as a student of Irish Gaelic I found that it meant not only little wolf or little hound but also it means a sheltering port or safe harbor. After five years of missing my old wolfhounds this seemed appropriate. It also seems like Tolkien may have been aware of that meaning as well.. since Huan did an awful lot of protecting.

Ah! You must be referring to my post back on page 10 Fantari ; I'm pretty certain Cuan was Tolkien's inspiration for Huan. I'm glad you found a new pup, it's always sad to lose a companion

I've seen evidence of Cuan- no seriously. Friend and I were walking up the hills and came across dog tracks- immense paw size- really, very, very large paw prints. But that wasn't the strange bit, the strange bit were the odd tracks beside it- bare feet, very small feet and the marks from a walking stick- not all the faerie folk have passed away in Scotsdale, you've just got to know where to look for the elusive little buggers (around here fortunately those who went before have left subtle clues- such as naming places "The Faerie Glen" very helpful if you want to know where to start).

Ithink he means the "Wee Folk", i.e. the more Hobbity side of the Scothobbit Clan. Ya know, them wee folk keep outtasight goodun propa (ask Biffo, he'll understand, clearly the rest of the Banks Clan has been hanging out with too many respectable types like Elves, Wizards, and Lords).

Now now, GB, we are trying to free you from your sad condition... We know how hard it is to ween oneself of the Liberalism-drug... Once you've realized you have a problem, then you can start to get better... Biffo is here to help too, in his own rough way - but he will only use violence as a last resort... Anyway, I thought this was the Beren and Luthien thread - not the Cheap Shots thread... I know you're not cured yet, dear old Beard, but at least try to be Respectable...

EVERYONE SHOULD RESPECT EACH OTHER'S DIFFERENCES IN OPINION! ENOUGH OF THIS "CURING" NON SENSE!
let's just try to find a middle ground, please? It's my nature to be controversal
Any way, yes, this is BEREN AND LUTHIEN only. I'll think of something to write sooon enough, but let's keep this othere business on other topics?

I've been writing a bit of fan fiction on other websites and stumbled across yours in a google search of my own work. I'm currently writing "The Tale of Beren and Luthien Tinuviel, A Novel," and it is half completed. I would welcome a place to post it and a round of scathing criticism. I want to be found fault with in private before strangers (or worse yet, reviewers!) can find fault later on, after it is too late to correct it. Currently, most of my postings are R rated or beneath, yet set in the blue visions of by "of Elves and Men." Mine are Stories by Cynthia, the first chapter of Beren and Luthien is there. Any and all criticisms and helpful hints would be appreciated. My goal is to write a novel length book based upon the original story. As a writer, I can tell this beautiful plot bunny is Mr. Tolkien's sidenote, and it could be made into something awesome. My Beren is young and sweet, my Luthien is a very young goddess, impetuous and utterly fearless. I have to end it differently than Tolkien did, because he ends it just like Return of the King, and that's no good. It needs it's own ending.
