Hugo
The movie Hugo was great, as was the book.
It was fun to see all the silent movie effects work. And there was forgiveness and growth.
I'm not a big fan of 3D, but it was interesting to compare that technological changes (as shown in the film) with the move from silent movies to talkies or black and white to color. I'm sure these changes were thought of as gimmicky, too.

Re: Hugo
I would love to see Hugo but I haven't been to the theatre as much the past few weeks since I've been watching so many films on DVD. I really would like to see it on the big screen before it's too late; I've heard nothing but good things about the movie. I'll admit it doesn't sound as good to me as it's being made out, but I could be (and hope I am) wrong.

Re: Hugo
Memento, Pan's Labyrinth, City of God, Inglourious Basterds, and the Swedish adaptations of Stieg Larsson's books, among others. Hopefully that passes the Petty Test of Film Snobbery.

Yes, Howard Shore did the soundtrack and it was excellent. Very french, you know, accordions and stuff.
