Well, as you've seen the output is crap. There's so much storytelling stuff that needs to be programmed in that I think such books will never be more than a novelty.

Then again the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series were so consciously formulaic they could easily have been written by machine. And they sold like hotcakes.

There's an assumption the bot was writing for a human audience. IF on the other hand it was writing at the expense of humans for the entertainment of other bots, I can see all kinds of rich and subtle ironies... Suspect

Perhaps, but I think we have to admit that the process for creating these books will only get better and better.

I had a good enough time watching it but I don't necessarily think that anyone who skipped it is missing out on a ton. It had its issues but I liked all four of the central characters. Colin Farrell was good in it and

Spoiler:

I'll go see the second but it's not something that I incorporate into my mental conception of Harry Potter or think about when recollecting or re-reading the books. Far better than Cursed Child though. Razz

Have any of our British and/or European members been to see the Harry Potter museum exhibition? It's apparently been at the British Library and is coming to New York next year. I never saw the LOTR exhibition (it stopped touring right around the time I was allowed to see the movies), but I saw the Narnia one at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia back in 2009 and despite not being a huge Narnia fan it was actually a lot of fun. This seems like it's more book-focused but I'm curious. It'll be a hell of a lot closer than the WB studio tour, in any event. Razz

Hm, that website included a link to a Harry Potter "Celebration". I've heard of Star Wars Celebrations recently. Doesn't one normally call these things Conventions?

That is the more common term, yeah. I'm not familiar with it so my first thought after seeing that it's hosted by Universal Orlando was that it might just be some promotional thing, but reading a little more it does sound like a fan convention.

One day I'll go back to Orlando and see the Diagon Alley half of Harry Potter World ... hopefully. Razz

Well damn. Definitely looking forward to this, even if I wish that Colin Firth was somehow still playing Grindelwald. Very curious to see more of Jude Law's Dumbledore, which has been a casting I've liked since first hearing about it. Smile

My family inherited a big box of legos back in the late '90s. They were most of them pretty basic shapes, but had enough lego-men and medieval/space/modern bits to make interesting things. For some reason having to make do with that mish-mash of pieces, most of them just blocks, has left me with a condescending attitude towards fancy complete sets with unique pieces. They seem fragile to me, kind of precious. If you lose a significant piece, then your castle will forever be incomplete. It's like the difference between a mongrel and a pure-bred. The pure-bred might look a lot better, but the mongrel is a more robust dog.

On second thought, this attitude may have just been sour grapes.

Cool set!

I see your point Laughing This set caught my eye at once, though, used to play with Harry Potter legos as a kid. No idea where I'd put it once it's finished, and kinda pricey for a nostalgia trip. Still want it Laughing

That's fantastic! Very Happy I love the stained glass windows; did the lights come with it? The LEGO stuff I see these days is so insanely far beyond how I played with them as a kid. Laughing
