US General Election 2016

{{{Problem is the US needs allies and I think the most likely outcome of the Trump Presidency upon Europe is to accelerate plans for the EU to have its own armed force and to cut the US out as much as possible as they cannot be trusted upon to act as an ally any more and to distance ourselves from the US, not by choice but by necessity }}

Trump is a master at capturing and holding the headlines. He's based his whole life and multiple careers on it. He knows nothing makes headlines like a good old fashioned train wreck, and that alone is enough to explain almost all of his foreign policy. Looking through that lens, he's not wrong....

{{Its certainly a train wreck- they just had a very uncomfortable few words in front of the cameras that looked super awkward, Trump didn't respond to questions about what he said only saying  he and May had a "very, very strong relationship"!
There's a full press conference with them both soon- should be interesting!

Donald Trump tries - almost successfully - to row back on what he told The Sun about Theresa May's Brexit plans: "I don't know what you're going to do, but whatever you're going to do is OK with us - just make sure that we can trade together."- BBC

May says they agreed a free-trade deal after UK leaves EU- sort of judging by Trumps statement! And the complete opposite of what he said in the interview! }}

{{{So Trump still left May in the shit- the promised trade deal they had stuck May spoke of whilst standing beside him at the podium, went in Trump's response ( and in the same sentence) from  'whatever you do is fine by us' to 'so long as we can still trade' to 'after Brexit we will look at any trade deal'. It  amounted to we will see what happens then look at it- which is fair enough but neither takes back his objections from the interview as to why there would not be a trade deal, nor gives any support to May against Boris and co. as its merely the promise to look and see depending what deal we get with the EU.

And on the subject of his interview (in a Murdoch owned Fox sister company newspaper) he said it was mostly ok but the rest was 'fake news', then went on about how he records everything, and he said fantastic things about May, and they have the recordings.

Problem is so do the paper- they put the interview out as recordings-



So even if they cut him out saying nice things about May, and I doubt they did they are Tory paper why would they? everything else they said he said, he is right there saying, you can hear him saying them!
If ever proof were needed that Trump simply calls any inconvenient piece of news 'fake' regardless even of the evidence of your ears and eyes, here it is.

Will be interesting to see how the Sun react to being called fake news by the President, and if Murdoch will let them respond by simply releasing the entire interview to see if Trump does say lots of fantastic things about May  or not. I know where I'd be betting!}}}

So why do Americas supposed allies get called foes of America, and Russia gets a watering down caveat of 'in certain respects'.
This is why it looks like Putin has something on Trump- its like Trump's afraid to offend Russia }}

Yeah, tomorrow should be interesting. Our President recently bragged that Putin will be the easiest of all to deal with. I guess we'll see tomorrow....

Well any meeting is easy if all you do is nod your head and say "yes sir, you're right, sir!"

Um the NATO leaders put out a pointed communique after the summit pointing out they had only agreed to stick to the 2% spending plan and by the time frame outlined in the agreement with Obama from 2014- that's it. That's what the NATO communique agrees to- I quoted it in an earlier post. This is just boastful lies and rubbish from Trump.
I find it highly unlike leaders were phoning Trump up to thank him for disrupting the entire thing, making a lot of noise and unfounded accusations, then signing up to the existing Obama era agreement anyway!

Next he will be tweeting about how the people of Britain love him and greeted him with cheers and flowers!!! }}

Well now we know how Trump will be dealing with Russia's past history including election interference. He tweeted

"Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

Trump went on about 'no collusion' but utterly failed to address the fact that US Intelligence Agencies unanimously say Russia tried to intervene and have enough evidence to indite 12 people for it the other day. That was not to do with collusion- so Trump response is a pure straw man.

Interesting questions at the end- Trump was asked outright if he believed his own Intelligence Services and with the world watching would he denounce Russian meddling- here's Trumps answer-


“People came to me, [national intelligence director] Dan Coates came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia," Mr Trump said.
"President Putin says it’s not Russia. I don’t see any reason why it should be.”
Putin also admits he did want Trump to win-
"Yes, I did, because he wanted to normalise relations with Russia."

As to what actual agreements if any have been reached, that's not clear yet, Putin called for more co-operation in Syria but we don't know what came of that. The only thing they say they agreed on at this press conference was to tackle together the "scourge of radical Islamic terrorism".

Over the course of it Trump managed to get in Witch Hunt jibes several times and stated the investigation had 'kept us separated' -yes terribly inconvenient when the person your working for is also under investigation by your own hand-picked appointed people for crimes against your country! And Putin got in a warnig about Trumps new Space Force and not weaponising space.}}
