Re: Music [3]
I was watching "Copland" last night. Good film, lots of 'names', stars Sylvester Stallone in a role I really liked him in, anyhoo, the music running thru the whole film is SO like LOTRs music, it wasn't hard to guess the score was by Howard Shore.

Can't see it in my country. But suppose I'll find it elsewhere.

The beginning bit with the clarinet (?) in this piece:
Reminded me of the Cast Away theme, just a thought.

Yep, that's somewhat plagiaristic.

Re: Music [3]
Perhaps "artistic inspiration" lol
I really like parts of that piece of music by the way, so beautiful when the the voices join in the first 30 seconds.

So much like the French to steal from American popular culture and say they started it. Take french fries for example....

Re: Music [3]
I cant believe the older disabled man wasnt a proffesional singer back in the day. As much as this is beautiful its tinged with sadness as both guys are no longer with us.

Hi Halfy. It was in the local newspaper about them. The older man died of bad health issues & the younger man took his own life

Re: Music [3]
These dark thoughts that lead to suicide are far beyond my comprehension, and seem to inhabit the intelligent and creative. I feel like there's a whole segment of the population that's beyond my reach. I don't want to have these dark thoughts, but neither do I like the feeling of being lost while trying to understand how such a vital part of our world wants to leave - when they clearly have so much to offer and enjoy in return. Why can't we solve this?

Re: Music [3]
I dont know Halfy. Some people just fob it off as a chemical imbalance of the brain. Perhaps that does play a part ? but the brain is so secretive & it hides things so well I think it will be a cold day in Hell before we can rummage around & understand it. Until then some of us have to live with feeling guilty over feeling so helpless, horrible isnt it.

Re: Music [3]
I watched Spectre tonight, and was struck once again by the genius of the Bond theme. And yet...if you look at it on paper, it looks boring, slow moving, with sudden bursts of random energy. Some scores you can look at and you just know it's good, but the Bond theme isn't one of them. And yet it's crafted with such dramatic insight that few themes can compare to it.

Re: Music [3]
I love this, I was thinking about how strange the brain is and the chemicals which can interact and change it. As I am on anti-psychotics, the anti-psychotic is part of the overall effects of the drug which I initially took for vertigo, it works for both and it is also marketed as an anti-dyspepsia drug, which is odd, there must be some connection between anxiety and vertigo and the stomach. Anyway I find it interesting how they can change ones mood, and where does the mood come from anyway.

Re: Music [3]
You would think the fact that a pill can change mood and all that entails would have a huge impact on philosophy and ethics, but my sense is those fields have tried really hard to ignore it.

Re: Music [3]
Maybe those people in a good mood don't feel the need to write or paint. It is tormented people who make the most oustanding art. Bosch, Van Gogh, Goya, Beethoven, Morrissey, Ian Curtis, etc etc. When you are in a good mood all you want to do is walk in the sunbeams and smile.

Re: Music [3]
{{ The brain and perception is indeed strange. Im my youth I had a period of magic mushrooms and LSD, rather a lot in fact for a few years, and its quite astonishing at how the mind can alter and how one can perceive in entirely new and different ways. You never quite look at reality the same way again when you realise a good deal of what makes it real is just how you interpret and perceive it. Change that position and viewpoint and you perceive reality in entirely different and new ways. }}

Re: Music [3]
That made me smile.
I wonder if she lays down the percussion first or last? It's meant to keep the rhythm, but it's also very responsive to what's going on musically. I can't imagine playing just tambourine with no music.
