Re: Music [3]
Africa is extremely homophobic, and a musical group in Kenya put out a music video to combat that. They knew no commercial stations would play it and put it out on youtube.

I have to say it's an artistic triumph. Extremely emotive music. People know I'm not exactly fond of rap, but between choruses it's done totally right here: bursting in with emotional impact that never overplays its hand into tedium. Only a handful of hip-hop artists use the medium so deftly.
Edit: actually I had written that after hearing the last half only. For the first half I think the rap sections are a bit too long: just when I expect the chorus to sweep in triumphantly ... the rap keeps going. Timing is off. But the balance does become perfect halfway through.

I'd only heard Quiet Riot's version before, this is great. Awesome song

Re: Music [3]
Saw Bruce Springsteen live in Oslo yesterday, and I'm still blown away. I've never been quite the die-hard fan that many of his fans are, but I like some of his songs, some I like alot, and others are "okay". Watching him and the band live, however, was a musical experience unlike anything else I've seen. The guy kept it going for 3,5 hours non-stop, which is impressive enough. His unbelievable energy and interaction with the audience put him in a league of his own as entertainers go.
There was no shortage of memorable moments last night, but one in particular stood out: There was this little girl sitting on her mother's shoulders at the front, and after he'd finished a song he gave her his harmonica that he'd played. The girl didn't let go of it and we could all see how much she loved his music. She couldn't have been older than four. An hour or so after she was given the harmonica Bruce pulls her up on stage during a song and places the microphone at her mouth, and that little girl sings along all on her own infront of thirty thousand people - she knew the lyrics, the whole thing was simply beautiful and amazing. After the song was finished Bruce took a rare break inbetween songs to say "Fantastic - that's a once-in-a-lifetime". I think every single person on that stadium loved it, but none as much as he did. I'll upload a picture when I get home
Even for a casual fan, a concert with Bruce Springsteen was an incredible experience. Definitely going again if I get the chance to

Re: Music [3]
I heard that concert from my house last night. You might even have parked on my street. (Lots of people did.)
Sounds quite the experience.
I think we share the same opinion of Springsteen too

I like it.
Fake edit: now I'm listening to "Wooden Ships" again. YouTube recommendations know me too well.

Re: Music [3]
A friend gave me a video of the Seegar Sessions. He definitely emotes with the audience in a way that needs no fireworks or lasers. And he's very generous to his band members. When one young banjo player in the back started doing a solo Bruce got behind him and pushed him to the front of the stage with the biggest grin on his face; he felt no need to be the center of attention. You can't help but love the guy.

Re: Music [3]
That album (The Seeger Sessions) is my favourite - not his own music, of course, but a fantastic album
