US bank JP Morgan has said it now expects Scotland to vote for independence and introduce its own currency before Britain leaves the European Union in 2019.

Spain will attempt to block a special deal for Scotland, to avoid setting any precedents for Catalonia or the Basque Country.

Scottish Labor Leader Kezia Dugdale (who backed Owen Smith against Corbyn in the leadership contest) speaking last week on the subject of Corbyn winning again- '"I do not think he can unite our party or lead us into government".

Speaking today after Corbyn wins again (as everyone predicted he would and knew he would, except her presumably)- "He can unite the party and win a UK election."

Well done, this also leaves her as leader of a Scottish Labour party who voted to get rid of Trident, but she opposed, and now backing Corbyn as leader who agrees with the Scottish Labour membership on Trident. Which means out of the Labour Party leadership under Corbyn she is out of step with the UK leader and her own membership in Scotland, and she backed Smith when her own membership voted overwhelming for Corbyn- wonder how long she has got left in the job? Wonder if when she goes there will still be a job to fill?}}}

well Corbyn just put paid to a Labour government for the next decade or so. how come all his fangirls look like ex-crustafarians?

The democratic deficit argument, that your vote is essentially worthless, is the strongest of the independence arguments, it plays into the SNP message of Scotland should be run by those who live and vote here, and more importantly its a strong sentiment that bypasses arguments like economy}}}}}}

I would sort out the oil problem before you go for another referendum.

Dugdale is an embarrassment. Why is she still in charge of Scottish Labour after their poor showing back in May? Do they really have no one better?

Yeah, I certainly don't envy Dugdale her position. Comes across especially poor in comparison to Ruth Davidson having (partially) salvaged a seemingly even more hopeless situation with the Scottish Tories, though.

As for Corbyn, his supporters are going through pretty much the mirror image of the process that the GOP has been through in the past decade. Instead of thinking that maybe they need to calibrate their message to appeal to an electorate that has voted against them recently, they somehow convince themselves that actually they just weren't ideologically pure enough, and that by doubling down they can win next time. Meanwhile "Old" Labour's most recent general election victory remains 1974.

The greatest irony is that the much-maligned Blair has done more to improve the lives of working-class people in Britain than any of his critics to the left ever have because he was actually in government, even if his agenda wasn't as "pure" as some would have liked.

{{True enough, but on the otherhand if the best New Labour MP's can manage is a coup and staged election to oust Corbyn which gives him a bigger majority and a much stronger hand by the end of it, then perhaps they would not be much better in charge.

What will be interesting is that one of the main complaints of voters about the two main political parties is that since Blair you could barely tell them apart and you had to squint for a long time to spot the differences. Next election we will have the usual Tory arguments, but Corbyn will be presenting nationalisation of services and some industry, removing the nuclear deterrent and giving more power back to the unions among other things. There will certainly be clear blue water between them next time out if Corbyn holds on in there.}}
