Did you ever watch my own edits DavidJ? As much of what you suggest is along the lines of my purist edits- they are nowhere near as professionally done as Goldeneye's but I think they are probably closer to the book and do things like restore Bilbo's arc from the book.

I watched some of your purist edits from an archive post, but not from any official source like youtube or vimeo. I thought they were pretty good from what I saw but if you resend them I'd to give you some feedback.

No worries- I'll be happy to hear your thoughts whenever you have the time to share them.
As to my name- I should've gone with my middle name as its pure Scots (and my grandfathers name on my fathers side to be hobbity about it), but you know whats it like when you need to think of a sock puppet name quickly for RL! Should just have stuck with Petty.
Yes, Braveheart Where to start indeed- probably with my favourite part that the romantic interest in the film was, in reality at the time, about 4. But that's not the least of its problems with history, not by a long, long, long shot. And dont even get me started on Gibsons 'scottish' accent

I thought gibson's accent was pretty good, though this is speaking as new yorker/american. The lack of historical competence never bothered me either as I saw the movie more as fairytale/legend. I don't think I'd be much interested in a 100% accurate version of the movie.
Maybe they went overboard with the christian themes, but it's still overall an enjoyable film about tyranny and patriots (and it has easily the best action I've ever scene in any film ever, literally eye popping )

I believe the name Campbell was actually the last name of Murron's character in Braveheart.

As a blockbuster ts well structured and well presented- but I'd have been happier if it all been set on the planet Zog and metaphorical of such struggles rather than screwing the actual history over, and more so it came out a sensitive time in Scottish history and politics during the rise of the SNP, and when it was under attack from its opponents on grounds that any sort of nationalism = nazi.
The films black and white simplifications, especially of Wallace himself, was in some ways potentially dangerous given the themes of nationalism and the portrayal of the English in the films had the potential to give voice to a fringe of the movement who already thought this way.
Even now the press still make 'amusing' comments about Braveheart and the SNP, it was also too easy for the unionist press to attack by drawing the comparisons that the SNP policies and notions of independence were just as fictional and just as based on misplaced black and white national sentiment as the film.
So its hard for me to view Braveheart clearly or cleanly as I cant help but see it in the context of the times in which it was made.
A film based on a study of the historic Wallace would in my view be a far more interesting film than Braveheart.
There are a lot of Campbells. I mean, a lot. I am a Campbell of Argyll, whose Clan Chief lives in Inveraray Castle and also bears the title the Duke of Argyll.

Re: J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit: A Fanedit by Dustin Lee
It was used by both sides, Salmond foolishly used it to whip up support because he is a politician, still stupid though, and the Unionist side used it to imply the SNP wee just as delusional as the film was and built on nothing more than a low appeal to nationalism and patriotic history. Which is was never about for the majority who vote SNP.*
But to see just how commonly the written press and politicians on both sides use Braveheart when discussing the subject just google SNP Braveheart.
*"I have heard multiple speeches from Labour benches standing to talk about the worrying rise of nationalism in Scotland, when in actual fact all these speeches have served to do is to demonstrate how deep the lack of understanding about Scotland is within the Labour party.....The SNP did not triumph on a wave of nationalism; in fact nationalism has nothing to do with what’s happened in Scotland. We triumphed on a wave of hope, hope that there was something different, something better to the Thatcherite neo-liberal policies that are produced from this chamber. Hope that representatives genuinely could give a voice to those who don’t have one."- Mhairi Black, youngest elected member of the SNP (21) House of Commons Maiden Speech

Braveheart was overlong, overblown and over produced, a fun but dopey epic.

Yes but there hope was centred in a certainty of racial superiority, there is no such notion in Scottish politics, all the SNP and its supporters want is to be an equal country in the world, responsibly and democratically conducting affairs, same as any other western country. And the SNP have no desire or ambition to tell others to do likewise, or to enforce it on others. Or even to have the nuclear capability to threaten others. Hitler was not standing on a platform of disarmament.

Out of interest would you feel the same way about English people who voted UKIP?
I know several people (not facist white van driving benefit claiming pot smoking racists-ordinary hardworking Brits paying their taxes fed up with the Big Three Parties) personally who voted for them because they felt they'd been failed by the three main parties, and they were at least listening to common concerns by the general public,
