Petty's Purist LotR Edits [4]

The only thing I noticed was the voice was off in the beorn scene for a bit when Gandalf I b traduce the dwarfs, but that could have been on my end. I really like the way you cut Beorn's scenes. I'll watch the rest of it again later and see if I would change anything.

Seems ok on the original, could be something to do with the playback on the drive thingy (thats the technical term I believe).
I am rather chuffed with the Beorn sequence myself I have to admit. Nice to have it make sense at last!

Going to upload book1 next before THHD, just because Book1 is half the size.

Okily dokily. Ive nearly watched it all, got up to 119 mins Im pretty sure Ive commented on this before ? But, hey ho I much prefer your version, & it shows what could be achieved if that twit had stuck closer to the BOOK rather than closer to a bit of skirt ( ie the witches Fran & Philipa ) Now I have to take umbridge with you ! Rhosgobel Rabbets ?? where are they ?? I was getting a sentimental attachment to them. We could have Gondor Guinea Pigs or Mordor Moles, start an Olympics in Middle Earth. The only thing that didnt click smoothly for me was, when Elrond asked what was Gandalf & gang doing on the Troll Road ? but we didnt get an answer ? ( Im buggered if I can remember the next scene ? ) It was nice that the Storm Giants were trimmed & the WC scene was shaved a bit also another small judder I felt was when Bilbo was in Beorn's house, he awoke to bees on his face, he gets up & then suddenly the Dwarves are up & mounted on horses. The only things that peed me off really were the things peejers muffed up. like dry Dwarves in a thunder storm, stupid remarks said in a sinister way from Gandy to Bilbo, And seeing Bombur racing faster than all the others to get into Beorns house ! oh fook makes me go all Hulk'y every time I see it only cuz the fat suit that guy is wearing notices SO much ! Wouldnt it be better to try to find a naturally chubby actor to play Bombur ? wasnt there anyone ? That suit looks cheap, like a panto chuck out. In fact Obelix looks more convincing.

There isnt an answer exactly in PJ's either, it cuts straight to the moon runes scene from there and Thorins "our business is our own" or words to that effect.

I ran out of footage! I used all the Beorn footage on making the previous day make sense. As trade off's go I think its worth it.

No, your right about the Beorn footage ! Getting it in the right order was the best thing to do
I forgot that scene about The Troll rd purely because I have absolutely NO fooking interest in the peejers version ! I watched it ONCE & that was well enough for me ! ( & a waste of money THAT was ! )
I say peejers is missing a gift horse in the mouth, a great opportunity to include all our woodland friends, Harry the Hedgehog, ( knew him well ) Bert the badger,..........

Petty once you have the EE you can put in all the Beorn/Dwarves stuff. I would personally cut out the chase scene and Bombur legging it, all of the sillyness would go, I would just keep the introduction of the Dwarves as in the EE and pretty much chop everything except the Bees scenes.

It still has to make sense. They still have to get from a to b.
I cut out the Beorn chase, they are being chased by orcs from the mountains following their escape from the burning trees.
You hear Beorn roar but you dont see him at all. There is no Beorn chasing them to the door, and no Beorn shovnig his snout in either.
First time you see him is in human form.

But then you could just watch it and see for yourself you know!!

Meant to say Figg, the edits are from the EE editions of AUJ and DOS. Not that I kept everything they put in, no naked dwarves in fountains in the purist edit!

Ive watched all of your edit now, cant tell you how glad I am that ridiculous barrel scene was skimmed down ! And thankgod Lake town was trimmed, All the silly banter, heads coming up thru toilets,farcical chases & barrels magically refilling with fish, all gone ! Oh happy day ! I could still complain about peejers input of crappy diarrhea but, I wont, IL save it for later ! Thankyou for the time & effort you put in for this & for all us Forumshirions to enjoy !

I found it slightly surprising that buried in there somewhere is a vaguely recognisable adaptation of TH. Ok you half to cut more than half the material out and rearrange stuff to have different meanings. But apart from that its there!

I enjoyed your edit very much petty , now as far as commenting I'll wait till I'm off my meds a bit more before commenting. Nothing like medication making you tired and groggy to make you pay way more attention to something, but not helping to give you the words to explain what you think worked well, or even that your remembering the right events. Once I'm not stoned and can think clearly I'll post something more.

Dont get disheartened, once youve made the film its there forever, & thats a good thing indeed ! Someone will see your edit & realise that the 2 versions are so different. My fookadilly PC played me up big time, For every 6seconds of film I had 3 or 4 seconds of buffering, I had this all thru, took me hrs longer to watch. I know it was my end, tho gawd knows what it was cuz Im not clever enough to understand computers....yet.....till Im shown.....whenever THAT will be

Its ok, thankyou.( I could download it later ? ) Ive watched & its good ! After all the necessary crap had been scraped away it was still coherent & easy to follow yet keeping as much to the book as possible. If it had been more like that from peejers, I wouldnt mind so much in going to the flicks, but it aint so Im not

Audio and video seems to have been synced on their own, so was probably me the other day.  I enjoyed Beorn's scene,  spiders and flies was much more enjoyable to watch for me  compared to the original ... something I noticed in Howard Shores soundtrack was the same melody line from the spiders and flies in The R&B  version. It's actually very subtle

Well at least one person involved in these films knows what subtle means then. 'Cause it sure as hell aint PJ.

The Beorns scenes are a puzzler to me as I don't understand why PJ put it together as he did in the first place, it makes no sense.

Its dawn, they decide to run to Beorns to escape the orcs.
They arrive at most an hour after dawn as a bunch of dwarves, a hobbit an old man cant possibly have outrun a giant bear and wargs for any longer over largely open ground, and then they just all go to bed until the next day!? Even though it cant be later than about 9am.
And Beorn, who chases them right to his own front door, gets it slammed on his snout doesn't do anything but wander abut all day and all night apparently, not deciding to even go into his house to see who is there until the next day.
I would love to know what the original scripting for this section was before all the changes, as its self evident when you go to edit it again that someone has beaten you to it, and its sort of spliced together from bits and pieces taken out of original context as is and rather badly strung together.
As an amateur editor I can safely say its amateurishly done.
