Is Craig done with the Bond franchise? This film seemed to "wrap things up" in a way.
The problem with Spectre is that it was too focused on Bond and his psychology. Bond is supposed to show up to break up other people's stories. He's not meant to be the lynchpin of the evil plans.

Yeah, recent Doctor Who has that problem too.

Good point applying to Who...I didn't make that connection but that's exactly what's bothered me about the recent Who I've seen, and hence the lack of interest. It's basically become a fanboy masturbation setup. Yawn.

I liked the movie. It was fun. It offered closure for Craig's Bond, which, IMO was needed because his treatment of the character was more serious, realistic, and gritty than any that had come before. And since when has breaking with formula become a problem?

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
The problem isn't breaking with the formula, the problem was in making it into a sort of cult of personality. "Our hero is so awesome that the worst bad guys in the world build their whole lives around him!" Give me a break.

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
James Bond is sent in to do a job & thats all. Thats all it should be, its not "This is Your Life"
I watched "Premium Rush" this afternoon & it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be Its a simple story, guy1 delivers something, guy2 tries to stop guy1. Guy1 is a bicycle courier in Manhattan,guy2 is a bent cop, throw a desperate mother trying to get her son into the country into the mix & it becomes a good old fashioned action chase. I liked it ! It had the predictable ending but that was ok, it rounded the story up. Each got what each deserved.

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
Yeah I liked that movie quite a bit. It wasn't that cheesy, even with some of the bicycle shenanigans which the characters get up to. I also like Joseph Gordon-Levitt a lot.
I've been watching Seven Samurai for the past couple nights. It is a very good movie, and a perfect adventure story. It is as if The Hobbit somehow managed to give every single dwarf a unique personality and made us care about each of them in turn. I believe Petty had suggested this film, or am I mistaken?

Not sure if I suggested it or not Forest, but if I were to talk of it I would certainly recommend it. Great film, stunningly directed and the cinematography is superb too.

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
Saw Krampus tonight.
Wasn't as scary as I thought (and hoped) it would be, but it reminded me of Gremlins (in a good way; though a tad more menacing and with a much darker ending). It did have the horror/comedy element, but I felt the filmmakers could have capitalized on that a bit more. Clocking in at around 90 minutes there were no pacing issues. I'm finding it harder and harder to sit through long movies the older I get, so it's nice when something doesn't mess around and gets right to the point.

This is about as "girlie" as I get !! I like this film because of Kate Winslets lovely cottage in the country really, & the snow, & its got a Christmassy atmosphere & it fooks me off.

Re: Seen any good films lately? [3]
I watched "Crimson Peak" tonight. I liked it. It was creepy & romantic at the same time, In equal measures I thought. I liked that the lead actress wasnt portrayed as a fainting simpering, needs a man sort of a girl. Tom Hiddlestone was, well, *hee hee, childish giggles*
- Spoiler:
- A baddie turned good in the end, tho he had to pay for it. Mia Watshername played her part well I thought, & the creepy ghosts were just what youde expect from GDT, He didnt let me down near the begining when we are treated to a cranium being sawn into & the father of Mia, his murder looked quite real It was a romance but, it didnt get off the ground really thanks to a fooking nut case of a sister, sick bitch ! And yay ! here we have the Hero, hardly getting his hands dirty or that many lines to say but yet gets the girl ( after a good stabbing from said nutcase )

Just finished rewatching Interstellar. Would love to see that in a rerelease on a true IMAX screen.
