Yeah she kinda reminds me of Ace/Rose (would quite like to see another character like that crop up again), I haven't read the War Doctor book yet but I thought the Time War was Locked? She looks like she's from 80/90's earth not the best of persons to have in a time war...

Re: Doctor Who [9]
It was only Time Locked once the Moment was used, not from the start- when the war was raging lots of parts of the universe were effected by it, such as the protein planet of the Neesteene Consciousness getting destroyed.
And the women in the Night of the Doctor with 8 seems to be human, so it seems some humans were effected (it being a Time War presumably humans from our future who had spread out into the galaxy)

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Love this little bit of insider info from Elizabeth Sladens autobiography on how to pronounce Sontaran-
'She stated that the actor portraying Linx, the original Sontaran from The Time Warrior, pronounced the race as Son-TAR-an, rather than Son-tar-an. The story goes on to detail that Alan Bromley, the director of the classic tale, tried to correct Kevin Lindsay, who retorted “Well, I think it’s Son-TAR-an, and since I’m from the f*cking place, I should know.”
His pronunciation of the Sontaran remains to this day.'
And some more insider info, for all those who say Moffat makes it up as he goes along-
'Steven Moffat always intended River Song to be a recurring character during his turn as show runner, and he had planned that she would be the Doctor’s future companion’s child for a long time prior to its ultimate reveal. Amy was only given the surname Pond to create a link between the two characters.
Alex Kingston always knew more of River than any other actor. Filming the sixth series, Kingston knew of River’s relationship with Amy and Rory, whilst Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill only found out upon reading the script for the mid-series finale.'

P.S.
By the by, I selected this particular quote because it reminded me of your cheerful descriptions of the haggis or whatever they are huddled across the landscape Petty. At least that's the general mood I get from the creative corner.

The pronunciation survives, but not the spirit. I miss REAL Sontarans.

The newer versions entirely lack the grace of the old Sontarans. They certainly can't dance as well, that's for sure.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Cant have you missing out on xmas Day Who- I think its on at 6.30pm GMT.
Nice vid supposedly a 'so far' style vid covering all of NuWho up to date- not sure its actually much use as a catch up mind you.
Was reading an inteview with Steven Moffat in which he was asked about Clara- and the complaint she was more a plot point in series 7 than a character and it wasn't until series 8 she got a proper full character.
According to Moff this was deliberate. He wanted her in series 7 to be the mystery and the Doctor to be the certain thing we all know- then when 12 comes along its reversed- she becomes the certainty we know and the Doctor becomes the mystery- putting the Who back in Doctor Who basically.
Like it or not as a writing device I think it paid off when it came to 12.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Finally got round to seeing the '96 TV Movie.
...It wasn't actually as bad I had feared. Don't get me wrong, it was a weak, very confused and anticlimatic storyline, a piss poor attempt at contiuing the series, with a weak death for Mcoy and a very cheesy Master (though cheesy might be better then balls out crazy...), and it definitely felt like a half finished Cable Pilot, rather than a feature length adventure...but it was over the top fun all the same.
I'm not sure If I'd ever want to watch it again, but I couldn't help but enjoy it...it was better then some of the dreck in the series at least. Mcgann was great 'These Shoes!', and had fantastic chemistry with Grace, the production design was pretty cool-loved the Tardis set, rather bigger than I'd expected, in some ways it was interesting to get an American perspective on things the cinematography was a definite notch up from the Classics, and it was nice to get a send off for 7 even if his death was rather badly handled, crappy but very fun.
On the evidence of this one Ep I'm glad Fox never up the series , but it's also annoying Mcgann never got a chance to shine on TV at least he found a home at Big Finnish, I'd rather trade 15+ years of Audios, then 4 seasons of American produced Who...
5/10.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
A fair core. McCann saves it from utter failure with a pitch perfect Doctor right out the box (pun intended).
Interestingly I also like Mccoy a lot to in this version. He said in the past that going back to make it, it was the first time he truly felt he had nailed his Doctor.

Really? That's interesting actually, I've never seen more than a few clips of Mcoy's doctor but in the series he came across more as a bumbling entertainer trying to act, rather than an actor, well acting...but I do agree though that he did seem more comfortable, and convincing in the role in the TV film, though his dialogue gave him very little to work with it was quite easy to picture him as a successor to the earlyier doctors, rather than a forerunner of the lighter, more family friendly takes of the new Series, perhaps the idea of years of of screen adventures and the chance to bridge the series to an American audience made him up his game? In a weird way I think his more morose appearance and gothic decour in the tardis was supposed to represent the 20th Century, Mcgann's more youthful scientist the 21st.

He's currently my *3 in my list after Hartnell and Capaldi/Tennant (Tennant admittedly more down to nostalgia), It was interesting to see his Doctor more or less fully formed in such a short time, I guess a bumbling 'Romantic Hero' would be a good way to sum 8 up, enthusiastic, mildly eccentric with a great voice, almost like a proto-tennant.
-One question though, are we supposed to condone the idea of the Doctor nicking his clothes out of locker rooms without washing them first?
It's kinda sad that the best actors in the series (arguably) have been left with the least screentime (Toroughton, Hurt, Mcgann and Eccleston, hopefully Capaldi will break the cycle...)
