I personally liked it when Capaldi said no to a scarf when he was deciding what to wear Very Happy says to me he wants to be more serious & not quite so frivolous, Im itching for a dark one.....Dr....a dark Dr.....a dark brooding Dr.....a dark brooding edgy Dr Very Happy
*Gulp* im not far off Petty's hit list am I pale after hes finished with Orwell & the others *gulp again *

I just watched it! I had to wait for my sister to come back from her boyfriend's so we could watch it together, but it was worth the wait.
It was a mixed bag, as others have said, especially the beginning half (the dinosaur-doctor dialogue was very forced). Getting a kind of companion piece to one of my favourite episodes of Tennant's (The Girl in the Fireplace) is very cool. I also found the clockwork android quite likeable, and enjoyed the scenes involving him.

Mostly in response to Mrs. Figg:
Well the whole "Impossible Girl" thing was fucking stupid as balls anyway, so a departure from that is highly welcome. I agree that Clara works better with Capaldi then she did with Smith, as with Smith she was this weird new person that anyone who liked Amy felt, reasonably, a good deal of dislike against. Not to be small-minded, but that sort of emotion just comes naturally I've found.
But now with Capaldi she finally has her own Doctor to re-acquaint herself with. I don't buy the whole idea presented that Smith was her doctor as I was never very impressed with their chemistry anyway. (There's only so many times I can hear "Run you clever boy" without getting my eyes stuck rolling). And with her character now acquiring depth (this was done in several pleasant ways in the episode) they can be equally interesting to watch!

Nice couple of replevins there, Petty. Laughing

As for my myself, I have to admit I found that quite decent. As others have said, it wasn't the strongest story, a bit like Robot really, as someone else mentioned, but it certainly showed some signs of promise. Perhaps most pleasingly in that Cipaldi looks capable of turning into to quite a good Doctor when he finds his feet.

I also find this reinterpretation project of Moffats interesting, though I'll witholding judgment on just how well I think it'll turn out for the moment.

Was not really a fan of this first episode. Everything felt tired. I think they need a new writer and new direction for the show. Which writer, and what direction, I have no idea.

And oh boy, next episode, Daleks. *yawn*

Cant say I agree with a single word of that Bungo. I thought the writing and tone was markedly different from before and very distinct from the 11 era. And 12 a very new, fresh sort of Doctor for NuWho.

As to Daleks appearing again- the BBC are in a tricky situation regards daleks, its use 'em or lose 'em. They dont surprisingly actually have the rights to the Daleks, the rights they do have says they have to use them at least once every year or they lose them.
Its a matter of hoping they find something interesting and new to do with them.

I think we must wait on our judgement for the Daleks episode. But I agree that a new (or another classic reboot) alien race would have been more fun to explore.
I suppose that the doctor's reaction, and relationship to, the Daleks needs to be substantiated for him to delve deeper into the character; but there really is no rush. If nothing else, the Daleks work very well as a sounding board for the different Doctor actors. It should be good stuff.

Edit: Simultaneous posts Petty. That's a strange technicality and makes absolutely no legal sense to me, but I don't think it even bears much on the episodic arrangement as the Daleks could certainly have shown up later in the season instead of right off the bat.
