Only part I dont like is the ending, he seems a bit easily tired to me for a Sontaran warrior.
He's behind schedule and has been rushing forward the work on the experiment, hence he hasn't had time to recharge or whatever the heck it is that he does to get energy back.
I didn't really mind that at all. Then again, I seem to be quite forgiving of dated technical aspects (choreography, in this case, but also make-up apparently) as some lame-minded individual was complaining on a forum I read about how she couldn't watch the Sontaran's head and facial expressions without giggling over how ridiculous it all looked.
The nerve of some people!

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Rose won!!!! Who did they ask? exclusively women who were 13 when it aired?
If its all time its easily Sarah Jane Smith followed by Jamie McCrivven. And if its NuWHo only, its Donna Noble.
That should be obvious!

Re: Doctor Who [9]
My thoughts on Listen
- Spoiler:
- Well that was Cr*p. Boring, slow paced, over hyped and a very confusing weak storyline...at the risk of making my family seem a bit dim, none of the five people who watched it were entertained in the slightest...and I'm not entirely sure what the story was about
Perhaps the worst episode of New Who I've seen, at Least Love and Monsters made sense, and seemed to be telling a straight forward story designed to entertain (or at least tick the boxes it should do for family TV), this episode just seemed like a choppily put together excuse to put a point across-I want to be entertained not confused.
More random conviniences, sidelining the doctor and making him seem more like a raving angry loony than the mysterious spiky matuer doctor we were promised. Though I did enjoy Capaldi's performance and monologues...I didn't really get what the Doctor was trying to achieve in this episode, if those hidden monsters have been there all the time, why has it taken him 2100 years to randomly start giving a damn.
So Clara not only has saved the Doctor dozens of times across his timeline, been the only companion to have met all incarnations, she now is apparently responsible for kick starting his fears and desires to travel in the universe? Tumblr is going to love that one...
Still...there was quite a bit of nice dialogue, and Coleman and Capaldi show every sign of being a winning match...I just really wish Moffat could come up with a less pretentious way to further their character arcs.
Granted I didn't really understand what was going on, but unlike the first three eps I have no desire to rewatch that.

Looking around it seems I'm part of a significant minorirty, apparently the episode was extremely creepy and made perfect sense.
Maybe I should rewatch it...

Ok
- Spoiler:
- Story seemed a bit 'loosey goosey', a bit like a time filler till something better turned up yet, I liked it !, Capaldi & Coleman are starting to click I feel, there were a couple of scarey moments but then it was dulled down by a couple of luke warm moments,I do like Capaldi's dialogue, the banter between him & Clara is bouncing smoothly I think, I think I wanted a scarey monster this week, I got a couple of scarey bits instead & thats it

My favourite bit was The Doctor nicking that blokes coffee...

Re: Doctor Who [9]
- Spoiler:
- Well I need to see that again before commenting fully, but it was packed with stuff going on. A character study wrapped up in a romantic comedy and a horror film where the characters are all chasing nothing but themselves.
Bravest bit of writing I've seen on Who since Rings, whether it works for an individual or not, was still bloody brave stuff from Moffat.
Someone on Gallifrey Base commented putting that on opposite X Factor would have been like putting the Singing Detective against New Faces.
I am inclined to agree, deeper than a very deep thing sitting over a very deep hole.
ps its currently sitting at 43% for 10 out of 10 on Gallifrey Base, not sure Ive seen that before (the next biggest set of votes is 28% of people, and thats for 9 out of 10!).

Two of my close friends have utterly hated what Moffat has done as showrunner, but both praised this episode as one of the best they'd ever seen, at the very least I'll concede it's definitely memorable in terms of its reception.
Thinking back on it, it does make more sense,
- spoilers:
- but it just feels to me everyone got overhyped and jumped on the bandwagon, I get the idea about The Doctor being scared of his own paranoia, but that's all it is an idea, it wasn't very scary i.m.o and a very oddly structured story. I'm not convinced Coleman and the guy playing Danny have good chemistry

Its funny how we each see different things in it ? Depends maybe how much of a fan you are ? I dunno ? I did like tonights episode tho, I liked it better than last weeks. I do think Capaldi is a bloody good choice for the new Dr He's human enough for me to like him but alien enough to be recognizably different

In answer to Malick, I dont feel Clara & Danny are a match, romantically. They seem at odds with each other, & if it dont look right it aint right.

Honestly I was sold on Capaldi largely down to his casting, I've seen him in so many other things that I was sold almost immediately by what he could bring to the table I'm not totally behind him so far (mainly because it seems Moffat hasn't quite figured out how to structure his character arc-I felt eps 2 and 3 could have been later in the series-let's have a bit of fun and establish the doctor first, then ask questions about him a little later, then again I didn't get behind Smith till Series 7...) but I'm really liking the hints we have so far, feirce but vulnerable, arrogant yet absent minded, curious yet cold, I just hope they find the right proportions to play around with. Admittedly I (generally) like the Doctor more on the Darker more aloof side so I'm kinda biased.
Depending on how this series plays out I'm 90% posistive he will be in my top three. He's definitely my fave of the New Series Doctors, though I'm inclined to think Smith and Eccleston could have been if they had better material to work with.
Incidentally, BBC Radio have been repeating a few of Mcgann's audio plays (The Tamsin Drew ones), given I've only previously listened to about 30 odd minutes of various snippets, and seen about five minutes the 96 film and Night of The Doctor , I decided to listen in to get an idea of 8 in perfect context...I was sold almost immediately. Mcgann is great.
Big Finish or the Beeb should really consider animating some of the Big Finish plays on releasing them on DVD...

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Watched then perused your posts. There must have been two simultaneous releases of an Episode called "Listen." That is, the one you guys watched and the one I did.
I loved it.
I loved it.
- Spoiler:
- Really don't know what I'll get next! The new Doctor is so hard to pin down. Clara is gorgeous and smart and wise and imbued with understated (as opposed to over stated) spunk.
Pink interests me too. Not sure what they will do with him.
Geez! I've now watched 4 episodes of Who in a row. Not since Pertwee have I done that!
Great Episode! Had me by the short and curlies throughout. Not nervous that much (alright, maybe once or twice!) but captivated.
Boring? Only if you're a Jackson fan and need a cheap animated thrill a minute. The ending was lovely in the way lovely should be. The Doctor and Clara are growing to know each other as people not cardboard cutouts. Subtlety - Who - unbelievable!
I think you're right, Petty. The writing is brave - if only because it isn't filled with cheap thrills or trying to make grand (ultimately banal) statements.
The Doctor may be an Alien, but he is almost human sometimes. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
I hope the writers don't succumb to pressure from the more shallow viewer.

Screw it! I'm tired of waiting for my sister to have time off from work and school. She can watch the new episodes on her own time; I'm going to go watch them today, or at least episodes 2 and 3.
