Tabletop Role-playing game. The tabletop is only necessary because of the existence of computer rpgs.

Re: Role-playing games
{{ I never used the MERP rules, i just used the modules as a basis for D&D games (would have been 3rd edition back then I think at most. I started thinking it was going to crap from 3.5, it increasngly became imposible to DM as players had far too many options in every situation and were ever more OP).
The new rules dont have round durations? It must do, surely? Otherwise you cant work out anything, everything takes x amount of rounds to happen, if you dont have a base for how long your round is how would you work any of it out?
There should also be movement speeds per round (it used to be divided up by race and size).
Mind you I've always Dm'ed with house rules anyway. }}

Re: Role-playing games
Combat rounds, yes: 6 seconds, with movement and spell durations, etc. etc. But it lacks rules for dungeon exploration and only briefly covers wilderness exploration in the DMG.
House rules are good and necessary, but if they are needed for the game to work in the first place, then the game is lacking.

Re: Role-playing games
I have a hard enough time playing myself. Playing someone else is just asking for trouble.

Re: Role-playing games
{{ In my DM'ing experience Halfy there is basically two ends to the player spectrum, and everyone is somewhere on the line inbetween to one degree or another.
At one end you have the dedicated role player, they will try to assume the persona, the characteristics, speak in the 1st person in character, put on a voice etc, and at the other end is the player who plays completey as themselves, if in that situation, they ignore race and character traits they should have, they dont put on a voice and they tend to speak in the 3rd person of their character doing things.
Every player is somewhere between those two types. }}
